Raphael Collignon and Alexei Popyrin face off in the second round of ATP Montreal. Collignon, seeded for the first time at Masters 1000 level, has shown impressive consistency and recently reached his maiden ATP final. In contrast, former champion Popyrin has struggled this season and is currently ranked 139. Although Popyrin managed a comeback in his opener, Collignon holds the head-to-head advantage and stronger form. The key recommendation is to back Collignon to cover the handicap, continuing his positive momentum against Australian players.

Raphael Collignon vs Alexei Popyrin ATP Montreal Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Former Canada Masters champion Alexei Popyrin scraped through his opening round in Montreal against a player competing in his first ever tour-level hardcourt match - if the Aussie doesn't raise his level considerably, he will be going home against a rising Raphael Collignon in the second round on Wednesday.

Collignon has enjoyed a very solid season - he's seeded at a Masters 1000 for the first time here in Montreal, compiling a positive 15-11 record at tour-level and recently making his maiden ATP final in Gstaad. The Belgian has a massive game and competes brilliantly - I expect to see him debut inside the top 20 very soon.

Meanwhile, Popyrin's game has gone in the complete opposite direction. Two years removed from his greatest career triumph when he won the Montreal Masters in 2024, Popyrin is languishing at No. 139 in the world, registering a dismal 27-43 record since the start of last year.

Popyrin was on the verge of another early exit when he trailed Roman Andres Burruchaga 4-6 2-4 before managing to stage a comeback to prevail in three. Not the most encouraging performance against a player who had never played a tour-level hardcourt match in his life.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Popyrin won this match as the good Montreal memories come flooding back, but backing him would be more wishful thinking. Collignon has the proven and sustained form on the board and demolished the Aussie for the loss of just six games on his worst surface of grass not long ago.

I'm taking the Belgian - who has a history of beating Australian opponents - to cover as the one and only bet for this one.
  • Collignon has won eight of his last 13 matches
  • Popyrin is 3-10 vs top 50 players in 2026
  • Nine of those 10 defeats for Popyrin have come in straight sets
  • Popyrin has a 27-43 record since the start of 2025
  • Collignon has won three of his last four matches vs players outside the top 100
  • Collignon is 5-0 in his last five matches vs Australian opponents

Collignon vs Popyrin Head To Head

Collignon leads 1-0, easing past Popyrin in straight sets in Halle during the grass swing.

Raphael Collignon Form Analysis

  • ATP 2026 Record: 15-11
  • ATP Canada Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 38
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 37 (July 2026)

Collignon has battled some niggling injuries throughout the season, but overall he's done a good job of propelling himself into the top 50.

The 24-year-old has been very consistent when healthy, reaching the third round of Roland Garros and quarter-finals of Halle before making his first ATP final in Gstaad, where he went down in a close three-set battle with Stefanos Tsitsipas.

After an opening round exit in Kitzbuhel the following week, Collignon is refreshed and recharged to take on the North American hardcourt summer. He is making his debut at the Canada Masters and received a bye as the No. 32 seed into the second round.

Alexei Popyrin Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 9-17
  • ATP Canada Record: 10-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 139
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 19 (August 2025)

It's been a shocking year for Popyrin - he's down at No. 139 in the world, had lost six matches on the bounce before arriving in Montreal and was last seen losing to the World No. 262 Andres Andrade 7-5 3-6 6-1 in the first round of the Vancouver Challenger.

Things looked like they could go from bad to worse as Popyrin trailed Burruchaga 4-6 2-4 in his opening round, but the Aussie dialled in and produced a gritty comeback to prevail 4-6 7-5 6-3.

Popyrin improved his Canada Masters record to 10-1 after he beat three top 10 players on his way to the 2024 title before reaching the quarter-finals in Toronto last year.

“There is a lot of good memories and I think that helps but I know what I’ve been doing behind the scenes for the last two months or so. It’s baby steps for me and hopefully I can keep going," Popyrin said post-match.

Popyrin is hoping to draw on his good memories in Montreal, but Collignon is in far better form and is backed to cover a -2.5 line in victory.
