Elena Rybakina vs Coco Gauff WTA Toronto Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Gauff to edge semi-final clash

Elena Rybakina battles inconsistency and high error counts in Toronto but manages to reach the WTA semi-final against Coco Gauff. Despite Rybakina's resilience, her recent play—marked by unforced errors—positions Gauff, who is playing her best tennis of 2026 and enters the match fresh, as the strong favorite. Historically, Gauff won their only prior meeting in a tight three-setter. Expect another close match, but the recommendation is for Gauff to win and the match to go over 22.5 games.

Elena Rybakina vs Coco Gauff WTA Toronto Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Elena Rybakina is hanging by a thread in Toronto, committing 72 unforced errors in her quarter-final but somehow still advancing. Coco Gauff is fresh from a withdrawal in her quarter-final and looks primed to take advantage of an out-of-form second seed - I'm backing the American to prevail in a semi-final that features Over 22.5 games in Toronto on Wednesday night.

I can't quite believe Rybakina is still alive and kicking in Toronto. After spraying 58 unforced errors in her opening match against Daria Kasatkina, the World No. 2 misfired on 72 occasions against Naomi Osaka in the quarter-finals, somehow recovering from 4-6 2-4 down and emerging victorious in three sets.

Rybakina has been well below her best dating back to Roland Garros, but she's digging deep and keeps finding ways to win in Toronto. That's to be commended, but I just feel she's there's for the taking and Gauff near her best should be good enough to get the job done here.

Gauff has also been struggling throughout the year and remains without a title across the opening seven-and-a-half months. However, the American has been playing her best tennis of the year in Toronto, advancing into the semi-finals without dropping a single set - and as mentioned, she's also fresh after Belinda Bencic withdrew ahead of their quarter-final due to a hip injury.

Surprisingly, this will only be the second meeting between the pair - and funnily enough, that lone previous clash came in Toronto four years ago, with Gauff edging a three-set marathon.

I'm predicting a similar outcome on Wednesday. Gauff has restored some confidence and belief with this run and Rybakina remains below her best, battling and scrapping for survival. A polished and clean performance from Gauff should see her through to the final.
  • Rybakina has seen Over 22.5 games in seven of her last 11 games
  • Gauff has seen Over 22.5 games in 22 of her last 35 matches
  • Gauff has won a tour-leading 15 matches in a deciding set in 2026
  • Gauff won the only previous clash between the pair in three sets
  • Rybakina has lost three of her last five matches vs top 10 players
  • Gauff has won two of her last three semi-finals

Rybakina vs Gauff Head To Head

Very surprising that these two have only played once before, with Gauff coming out on top in three in Toronto four years ago.

Elena Rybakina Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 38-11
  • WTA Canada Record: 12-4
  • Current Ranking: No. 2
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (March 2026)

Rybakina enjoyed a superb start to the season, claiming her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open before finishing runner-up at Indian Wells and reaching the semi-finals in Miami.

She maintained that momentum throughout the clay swing, winning the Stuttgart title and advancing to the quarter-finals in Rome to cement her place among the tour's leading players.

Since then, however, the Kazakh has struggled to maintain those standards. A shock second-round loss to Yuliia Starodubtseva at Roland Garros was followed by another disappointing campaign at Wimbledon, where she fell in the third round to Elise Mertens.

Rybakina has returned to hard courts in Toronto but is still searching for her top form. She survived a scrappy opening match against Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 despite committing 58 unforced errors, before producing a more convincing 6-2, 7-5 victory over Ann Li. The 27-year-old was pushed the distance again in the fourth round, edging Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Another battle took place in the quarter-finals against Naomi Osaka, with Rybakina recovering from a set-and-a-break down to come away with a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory in 2 hours and 33 minutes. Rybakina's radar was all over the place again, hitting 72 unforced errors, but she managed to steady in the important points to reach a 14th WTA 1000 semi-final.

Coco Gauff Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 35-12
  • WTA Canada Record: 14-5
  • Current Ranking: No. 4
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2024)

By her own lofty standards, Gauff has endured a relatively underwhelming season, arriving in Toronto without a title in 2026 and having slipped to No. 4 in the world rankings.

The American has struggled to build sustained momentum throughout the year, with many of her matches turning into lengthy, physical contests that have prevented her from putting together a dominant run.

Despite that, Gauff has still produced some impressive results, finishing runner-up at the WTA 1000 events in Miami and Rome while also reaching her maiden Wimbledon semi-final.

She appears to have found her rhythm again in Toronto, cruising into the semi-finals without dropping a set. Gauff opened with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Kayla Day before comfortably accounting for Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-4 and teenager Alina Korneeva 6-3, 6-1.

The 22-year-old then benefitted from Belinda Bencic's withdrawal in the quarter-finals, meaning she comes into this encounter fresh and recharged.

Verdict

Rybakina remains an error-machine and there for the taking - if Gauff plays a smart match, she should be winning this and advancing into the final.
