It hasn't been pretty, but Rybakina just keeps finding a way in Toronto. Four of her five wins have come in a deciding set, but the Kazakh is overcoming error-ridden performances to peak when it matters most, including her three-set semi-final victory over Coco Gauff.

Swiatek meanwhile is undoubtedly playing her best tennis of the season, registering some crushing victories this tournament before finishing strongly to conquer Elina Svitolina in the final four.

It sets up what should be a cracking final, with the H2H level at six wins apiece.

It's tough to call, but I'm leaning with Rybakina as the slight underdog. I've admittedly faded her most of the tournament to no avail, but she just keeps hanging in there and offers value after winning the last two meetings between the pair - and they've been dominant too, with Rybakina's winning sets coming via 6-1 6-0 7-5 & 6-1 scores.

While Swiatek has produced resurgent tennis this tournament, she now must overcome the World No. 2 and a player she's struggled against recently. Rybakina is back to her best tennis on a hardcourt and I think her powerful game and stronger first serve can propel her to the title Thursday.

Rybakina enjoyed a sensational start to the season, capturing her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open before finishing runner-up at Indian Wells and reaching the semi-finals in Miami.

She carried that form into the clay swing, lifting the Stuttgart title and advancing to the quarter-finals in Rome to firmly establish herself among the top two.

However, the Kazakh struggled to consistently reproduce that level over the last couple of months. A shock second-round defeat to Yuliia Starodubtseva at Roland Garros was followed by another disappointing Grand Slam result at Wimbledon, where she exited in the third round against Elise Mertens.

Rybakina has been far from her best in Toronto but has continued to find a way through. She survived a scrappy opening-round battle with Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 despite spraying 58 unforced errors, before a steadier 6-2, 7-5 victory over Ann Li. The 27-year-old was taken to three sets again by Liudmila Samsonova, prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals.

Another stern examination followed against Naomi Osaka. Rybakina fought back from a set and a break down to prevail 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in a gripping two-hour, 33-minute contest. Although she leaked another 72 unforced errors, she held her nerve in the biggest moments to secure her place in a 14th WTA 1000 semi-final.

It was more of the same in the final four, with Rybakina again recovering from a set down to subdue Coco Gauff by a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 score to reach a seventh WTA 1000 final.

It's been a frustrating campaign by Swiatek's high standards, with the former world No. 1 slipping to No. 8 in the rankings and only making her first final of 2026 here in Toronto.

Prior to this tournament, her deepest run came in Rome, where she reached the semi-finals, but Swiatek has struggled to convert promising weeks into title challenges. Disappointing Grand Slam performances followed, with the Pole falling to Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round of Roland Garros before suffering a surprise third-round exit to Alexandra Eala at Wimbledon.

Back on hard courts in Toronto, however, Swiatek has rediscovered her best tennis. She dropped just three games combined against Sara Bejlek and Viktorija Golubic in her opening two matches before avenging her Roland Garros defeat to Kostyuk, rallying from a set down to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 while saving nine break points across the final two sets.

The 25-year-old then delivered arguably her most complete performance of the season in the quarter-finals, dismantling Diana Shnaider 6-2, 6-1. Swiatek struck just eight unforced errors - her lowest total in a match all year - won 23 of 26 first-serve points and did not face a single break point as she surged into the semi-finals.

Swiatek then snapped a two-match losing run against Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals, finishing strongly to win the final three games of the match in a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory and advance into a 14th WTA 1000 final.
