Elena Rybakina has struggled in recent tournaments, posting a 4-5 record in her last nine matches and falling short of her early-season Grand Slam-winning form. Facing her in Toronto is Daria Kasatkina, who comes in with momentum after a remarkable comeback in her opening round and five wins in her last seven matches. With a positive head-to-head record and good baseline play, Kasatkina is tipped for a potential upset. The recommendation is to consider Kasatkina, especially with the +5.5 game handicap.

Elena Rybakina vs Daria Kasatkina WTA Toronto Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Elena Rybakina has been in poor form with a 4-5 record in her last nine matches, opening the door for Australia's Daria Kasatkina to contend for a big upset in the Canadian Open second round in Toronto on Wednesday.

It's been a challenging last couple of months for Rybakina - she's only won back-to-back matches once since Rome and as mentioned, is 4-5 in her last nine matches. Incredibly, Rybakina as a chance to hit the World No. 1 ranking in Toronto, but she needs to win the title and hope Aryna Sabalenka doesn't make it past the R16. So basically impossible on her current form.

Rybakina was stunned by Yulia Starodubtseva at Roland Garros before further upset defeats on grass against Katie Boulter, Alexandra Eala and Elise Mertens. She's a far cry from the level that saw Rybakina start the year by winning the Australian Open title and Kasatkina should fancy her chances of making an impact here.

Newly married after Wimbledon, Kasatkina is in good spirits and produced a fantastic comeback from 1-6 1-4 down in her opening round in Toronto to beat Xinyu Wang 1-6 7-6(5) 7-5. She's won five of her last seven matches and coming off third rounds at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, which is decent enough form.

Kasatkina has also beaten Rybakina twice before, along with taking a set in what was an incredibly tight quarter-final in Montreal back in 2023. Kasatkina has the ability to lock in from the baseline and get lots of balls back, which could frustrate and grind Rybakina down in her current form, leading to errors. At these prices, Kasatkina is worth a small stake for the upset here - and I'm confident she can cover with a big +5.5 start.
  • Rybakina has failed to cover a -5.5 line in seven of her last nine matches
  • Rybakina has dropped 1+ set in seven of her last nine matches
  • Rybakina has lost five of her last nine matches
  • Kasatkina has won five of her last seven matches at all levels
  • Kasatkina has won 1+ set in three of her five previous meetings vs Rybakina, winning twice

Rybakina vs Kasatkina Head To Head

Rybakina leads 3-2, but this will be their first meeting in over two years.

Elena Rybakina Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 34-11
  • WTA Canada Record: 8-4
  • Current Ranking: No. 2
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (March 2026)

Rybakina started the year with a bang, winning her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and backing it up with a runner-up showing at Indian Wells and semi-final in Miami.

It was also a strong start to the clay swing, with Rybakina winning the Stuttgart title and making the quarter-finals in Rome.

However, things have unravelled since. Rybakina went out in the second round of Roland Garros to Starodubtseva before suffering a third round defeat at Wimbledon to Elise Mertens.

All up, Rybakina has lost five of her last nine matches since Rome and arrives in Toronto desperate for a turnaround in form. She has made the semi-finals in her last two Canada Open appearances, going down to Victoria Mboko last year.

Daria Kasatkina Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 14-14
  • WTA Canada Record: 11-9
  • Current Ranking: No. 61
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 8 (2022)

It's been a tough last few years for Kasatkina - she's tumbled down the rankings and doesn't really look like making a run back towards the top of the game.

Kasatkina went 4-9 across the opening four months of the season, but she's since found some okay form, reaching the quarter-finals in Strasbourg and making the third round at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, where it took Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka to stop her.

The 29-year-old qualified for the Washington main draw last week, but suffered a straight sets defeat to Anna Kalinskaya in the first round of the main draw.

It was looking like another first round exit for Kasatkina in Toronto, but she managed to stage a miraculous comeback against Xinyu Wang, prevailing 1-6 7-6(5) 7-5 after initially trailing 1-6 1-4.

Kasatkina made the quarter-finals in her Canada Open debut in 2016 and once again in 2023. She made the third round last year, going down in a deciding set tiebreak to Marta Kostyuk.
