Holger Rune vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Rune targets Stockholm semi-finals
In an intriguing Nordic Open quarter-final, Holger Rune faces Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a pivotal match. Rune, in search of his second ATP title this season, is still vying for a spot in the ATP Finals in Turin. Although Rune has been inconsistent this season, he dominated his last match against Marton Fucsovics. Etcheverry, also struggling in 2025, aims to capitalize on his recent strong performances in Stockholm. Rune's propensity for decisive victories in straight sets suggests a probable outcome in this encounter.

It's been a relatively disappointing season for Rune, but he's still alive in the Live ATP Race to Turin and can boost his hopes by claiming the Stockholm title over the next few days. The Dane continues to underperform, but clearly has the talent to be ranked inside the top five - and the next month or so could be crucial for how his next 12 months pan out. Meanwhile, Etcheverry has also endured a poor 2025 campaign, slipping outside the world's top 60 - but he's been playing well in Stockholm as he looks for a a big scalp here.
Rune is always tough to call these days, but when he wins, he usually does so convincingly. Indeed, 12 of his last 13 hardcourt wins have come in straight sets. I'll back the top seed to get the job done in straights again to reach the final four.
Head To Head
Rune leads 1-0 at tour-level, edging out Etcheverry 6-1 3-6 7-6 in the quarter-finals of Basel in 2023.
Holger Rune Form
Rune enters the Nordic Open with a 35-21 record for the season, having slipped outside the world’s top 10 and facing a major challenge to qualify for the year-ending ATP Finals in Turin.
It’s been a frustrating period for the Dane. When he stormed to the 2022 Paris Masters title as a teenager, many expected Rune to join Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as part of tennis’s new elite. Instead, inconsistency and the weight of expectation have stalled his rise.
There have been flashes of brilliance — notably his Barcelona title and runner-up finish at Indian Wells — but no doubt there's been too many early exits for a player of his calibre. Rune’s most recent setback came in Shanghai, where he missed a golden opportunity for a second Masters 1000 crown, falling to the tournament’s surprise champion Valentin Vacherot in the quarter-finals.
Accepting a late wildcard into Stockholm in a bid to boost his ATP Finals chances, Rune registered a solid 6-4 6-4 victory over Marton Fucsovics in his opener, saving eight of nine break points.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry Form
It's been a quiet year for Etcheverry after he hit a career-high ranking of No. 27 last season - he's posted a negative 23-26 record coming into this contest having tumbled down to No. 63 in the world.
Etcheverry's best result has been a semi-final finish at the ATP 500 event in Hamburg, but there's signs he's getting back to some good tennis.
The Argentine made the quarter-finals of Hangzhou to kick off the Asian swing, but unfortunately he was forced to retire with injury and subsequently pull out of the next two events.
Etcheverry made his return in Stockholm this week and he's returned to the quarter-finals, beating Mark Lajal and Miomir Kecmanovic in three sets.

Verdict
Rune remains unreliable, but when he wins, it's usually in straight sets.
I'm backing him to prevail, so have to follow the trend, which has seen 12 of his last 13 hardcourt victories come in straights.
