Casper Ruud and Juan Manuel Cerundolo face off in the ATP Gstaad quarter-finals, setting up a rematch after Cerundolo ended Ruud's winning streak at this event last year. Cerundolo is in excellent clay form, recently defeating World No. 1 Sinner and winning 11 of his last 12 on the surface. Ruud, though rusty in his opener, remains the two-time champion at Gstaad. The article predicts a tight contest, with Cerundolo expected to cover the +4.5 games line and the match going over 22.5 games, but with a slight edge to Ruud in three sets.

Casper Ruud vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo ATP Gstaad Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Casper Ruud will have revenge on his mind when he squares off against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the Swiss Open quarter-finals in Gstaad on Friday.

Cerundolo ended Ruud's nine-match winning streak in Gstaad in the quarter-finals last year, coming away with a three-set victory before going down to Alexander Bublik in the final.

It's been a great last 12 months for the younger Cerundolo brother - he's climbed inside the top 50 in the rankings for the first time and of course registered the biggest win of his career at Roland Garros earlier this year when he outlasted World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

That win was part of a strong run of clay form for Cerundolo, with the Argentine winning 11 of his last 12 matches on the surface.

If he can maintain that sort of level and draw on the memories of his win over Ruud in Gstaad last year, there's no reason he can't be very competitive here.

Ruud was a bit rusty in his Gstaad opener, claiming his first win since Roland Garros with a three-set victory over Jaime Faria and he might need a bit more match play under his belt before he can find his best tennis again.

Which means I like Cerundolo to cover a +4.5 games line and to push the match Over 22.5 games. I will still take Ruud in three sets with a smaller stake.

Ruud vs Cerundolo Form Analysis

  • Ruud has won 12 of his last 15 matches on clay
  • Cerundolo has won 11 of his last 12 matches on clay at all levels
  • Cerundolo has seen Over 22.5 games in four of his last six best-of-three matches
  • Cerundolo has seen Over 22.5 games in six of his last seven matches in Gstaad
  • The only previous meeting saw Over 22.5 games, also in Gstaad

Ruud vs Cerundolo Head To Head

Cerundolo leads 1-0, prevailing in three sets last year in the Gstaad quarter-finals.

Casper Ruud Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 24-13
  • ATP Gstaad Record: 10-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 13
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)

Ruud's season gathered momentum as the calendar shifted to clay, with the Norwegian rediscovering the form that has made him one of the most reliable performers on the surface. After a quiet opening few months, he climbed back inside the world's top 15 thanks to a string of strong results.

The former French Open finalist reached the fourth round in Monte Carlo before making the quarter-finals in Madrid. He then produced his best tennis of the year in Rome, advancing all the way to the final before falling to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

A demanding schedule may have caught up with Ruud ahead of Roland Garros. He opted to compete in Geneva immediately after Rome, reaching the semi-finals, before his French Open campaign ended in the fourth round with a defeat to Joao Fonseca.

As expected, Ruud wasn't able to make much of an impact during the grass-court swing. He suffered another first-round exit at Wimbledon, going down in straight sets to Hubert Hurkacz before returning to his preferred clay courts here in Gstaad.

However, it wasn't the cleanest performance from Ruud - he dropped the opening set to Jaime Faria before improving as the match went on to complete a 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-2, improving his record in Gstaad to 10-1.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 12-12
  • ATP Gstaad Record: 6-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 45
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 42 (June 2026)

Cerundolo has been playing the best tennis of is career over the last couple of months and he will be hoping to make a push towards the top 30 and being seeded at the slams before the US Open.

The 24-year-old comes into this clash having won 11 of his last 12 matches on clay at all levels, securing the Challenger title in Bordeaux with a victory over Raphael Collignon in the final before conquering Jannik Sinner in five sets on his way to the fourth round at Roland Garros - his best result at a major.

It was a decent grass swing for Cerundolo as well - he made the quarter-finals of Eastbourne, but had a tough first round draw at Wimbledon, going down to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Back on clay, Cerundolo is hoping to go one step further in Gstaad after finishing runner-up to Bublik last year. The Argentine has battled through in a deciding set in his opening two matches, beating Zdenek Kolar 4-6 6-3 6-4 before edging out Miomir Kecmanovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Verdict

Rematch of last year's quarter-final - Cerundolo can trouble Ruud again, but this time I'm backing the two-time champion to prevail.
