Sydney racing heads to Rosehill on Saturday for a 10-race metropolitan program, headlined by the Listed Winter Challenge.

Midway Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Rosehill Value Bets - Race 2 No. 14 Embrace The Wind & No. 15 Prefer Diamonds

There are a few opportunities in this Midway through both Embrace The Wind and Prefer Diamonds.

The John Thompson-trained galloper, a three-year-old colt, resumed in a hot Benchmark 72 at Rosehill on June 27, where he settled back from a wide draw at big odds before recording the fastest final 200m of the program.

All of the second, third and fourth placegetters from that event have won their subsequent starts, making it terrific form, particularly dropping back to Midway company with 0.5kg less and a kinder alley this time around.

He needs to begin better, although the low draw is another positive, and Embrace The Wind is the one to beat.

Prefer Diamonds still requires a scratching to make the field as the first emergency, although she arrives hard fit after three competitive runs this campaign, and while she hasn't quite gone on with it, she's always looked a blinkers candidate, and the key gear could spark sharp improvement.

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Cheval De Bois

Not only have connections opted for the much bigger prize money on offer on Saturday, they may have also pulled the right move by avoiding Thursday's Kembla Grange Class 1, which was dominated by very talented Aethelwulf.

The Archibald-trained three-year-old was building into the campaign nicely, getting home well for fourth first-up at Newcastle before finishing runner-up at Kensington after settling outside the leader, hitting a flat spot and charging again late to just miss.

He also receives a 1.5kg weight swing on Ballpark from that July 1 clash.

The ride on the winner proved the difference, with Tim Clark catching his rival jockeys napping early to find the best part of the track, and that assisted Ballpark in saluting.

Cheval De Bois is still a galloper putting it all together, and while I wouldn't be surprised if he's wearing headgear at some stage, he plummets in the weights and appeals on an each-way basis in a tough program.

Racing And Sports Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 12 Sir Artie

While his last campaign fell away late after recording a Rosehill win in this grade back in September, the May 6 Muswellbrook trial was encouraging.

With no prior first-up form, Sir Artie was sent around at big odds for his June 13 resumption, although he got home nicely for a fourth-of-13 finish.

The second-up run on July 4 was even better, recording the race's fastest closing sectionals and the fourth-fastest final 200m of the program, while he was the only runner in that Benchmark 78 to make any inroads from out wide.

Although back up in grade, he won in this company earlier in the season carrying 1.5kg more than he has here, so he's nicely treated after Mollie Fitzgerald's 3kg claim.

Sir Artie has also accepted for the Listed Winter Challenge and still requires a scratching to make the field, and while he's also worth including there at a big price, this shapes as the softer option.

Rosehill Feature Bet - Race 9 No. 10 Mchale

Without the tactical speed to make use of a good draw, the wide alley for Mchale isn't such a huge negative, given he's always been a type who likes to find his feet from off the speed.

It'll simply come down to the track pattern and whether runners are making ground at Rosehill on Saturday.

This Chris Waller-trained galloper has produced the best two performances from the key lead-ups, getting home for fifth in the Civic Stakes with the race's fastest closing sectionals before finishing runner-up in the Winter Stakes, where he receives a 1.5kg weight swing on General Salute.

The main query is that he's generally been an early-preparation horse, although he has strung a few good runs together after a last campaign that was a little underwhelming.

He's certainly got the class to take this out under talented young jockey Zac Lloyd, who is striking at 30% since returning from a short overseas stint.

Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Rosehill Favourite - Race 10 No. 12 Columbia Blue & Roughie - No. 3 Mogo Magic

The only major knock on Columbia Blue is the wide draw, although he could overcome that with his tactical speed, as was the case when narrowly beaten by Polyglot first-up on July 4.

That winner had put the writing on the wall the start prior in a good form race and enjoyed the more economical run when saluting a fortnight ago.

This Joe Pride-trained galloper brings a perfect two-from-two second-up record, while his only miss from the top two came in December before a spell, when he reared at the start of a race won by the smart Ice Kool.

Columbia Blue is the one to beat, while Mogo Magic is the roughie to include after getting into a speed duel first-up at Hawkesbury before improving second-up despite some excuses.

He has since bolted in at a tick-over trial, while his last Rosehill attempt resulted in a Benchmark 88 placing behind Sixties, who won two of his next three starts at Group level.
