Morphettville Tips July 18
Ule Hoof Oil Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)
Morphettville Best Bet - Race 2 No. 5 Street Legal
The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper has placed in five of six starts without breaking through.
There has been nothing to fault with any of his efforts this campaign, having stuck to the task well when resuming on May 30 before covering ground as a beaten favourite when runner-up again on June 20.
That event has already produced two subsequent winners, including Power Dance, who bolted in on the Parks circuit last Saturday and did kick off the prep with a runner-up finish behind the handy Australia Forever on June 6.
Street Legal will strip fitter with two runs back from a decent break, and from barrier one he should get every chance.
One at a big price to keep an eye on is Loyalty Reigns, who was spruiked early in Victoria but clearly had issues before failing on stable debut for Sophie Logan, although he was given time, and last month's jump-out win was quite sharp.
Sportsbet More Places Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Morphettville Favourite - Race 5 No. 8 Wolfy
Admittedly, Wolfy doesn't win out of turn.
This is also the easiest race he's contested in a long time, with the son of Tivaci taking on much stronger company in Melbourne since a Benchmark 70 win early last year while still racing consistently.
That includes a Benchmark 78 placing second-up in March before two more competitive efforts, and after striking the flying Ten Commandments, he made good late ground at Sandown Lakeside on July 1 with the race's fastest final 200m.
That event was won by the progressive Humza Bey.
He'll need luck in transit as a sprinter without much tactical speed, although the small field could play into his hands, and Wolfy has the turn-of-foot to be very dangerous with the right run.
Sportsbet S.A. Sires' Produce Stakes Tips (Race 6)
Morphettville Feature Bets - Race 6 No. 4 Spain & No. 5 Power Plan
This is an open edition of the Group 3 South Australian Sires' Produce Stakes, and Spain and Power Plan are at each-way quotes.
Spain is a son of Snitzel from the Waterhouse & Bott stable who was one-paced on debut at Warwick Farm on June 24 in a race won by the very smart Omolong, who was a subsequent Rosehill winner.
He then headed south and bolted in during an 1100m jump-out at Werribee on July 3, a heat completed in good time that morning, with blinkers on from a low draw, and the rise in distance should suit.
Power Plan is at longer odds, and while he's probably one to keep a closer eye on next season once he gets over more ground, he's heading in the right direction after a sound Listed Oaklands Plate effort from a wider draw.
He's very well bred, from the same family as Group 1 winner Go Indy Go and Air Assault, who won this race in 2023.
PFD Food Services Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 1 Bold Secret
While he couldn't complete the double when crossing the border for a 0-64 here on June 27, it was still an encouraging performance from Bold Secret.
The three-year-old will only strip fitter for that 1400m outing after sticking on honestly in a fast-run race when exposed early, with stablemate Falanghina finishing over the top with a stronger turn of foot.
Although slightly up in the weights and drawn wide again, Saturday's Class 2 over the same distance is a pretty weak assignment.
Bold Secret has always shown above-average ability, and he's a classy type who should continue to improve with racing.
Jason Holder takes the ride, and the veteran hoop comfortably leads the Adelaide metropolitan premiership with 45 city wins, 12 clear of second heading into Saturday's meeting.
