Flemington hosts Saturday's nine-race metropolitan meeting, with the Deane Lester Flemington Cup 1849 headlining a competitive winter card.

Several progressive gallopers and emerging three-year-olds feature throughout the program, with plenty of depth across the Benchmark contests.

For those looking ahead to spring, the Group 1 Futures Markets provide the latest odds for Australia's biggest upcoming races.

TAB We're On Tips (Race 2)

Flemington Favourite - Race 2 No. 1 Hard Kick

Arguably the most interesting runner on the entire program is the resuming Hard Kick.

The straight-track winner took out the Listed Talindert Stakes on debut, comfortably defeating Zambales, Diameter and Grinzinger Heart, with the latter pair both becoming subsequent stakes winners, while Zambales was competitive at Group 1 level before just missing in a Group 2 here.

The recent jump-out work has been solid, with a quieter first winter hit-out before accounting for unbeaten stablemate Cruiserweight on July 3, who was an impressive Caulfield winner last Saturday.

This is no gimme, with Panchenko a dominant debut winner at Bendigo, while Riverina Lulu has impressed in two June jump-outs and Veneto Street looks to have class, although he may improve further with racing.

Hard Kick is still the one to beat, and the early market reflects that.

Flemington Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 10 Marine Express

The last three winners from the Grahame Begg stable have all scored second-up.

While this is technically a big rise in grade, it's smart placement with Marine Express taking on a metropolitan race against her own sex.

She's the least exposed galloper in a modest mares' race, drops 9kg from her fresh assignment and was unlucky as a beaten favourite at Bendigo on June 25 when working home in restricted room.

The four-year-old showed ability through four runs last year, including a second to the handy Cooly before winning at Werribee, while her final run of 2025 saw her hang out when runner-up in a race won by the useful Oak Beach, who was a metropolitan winner last month.

Marine Express appeared to settle better in her jump-outs before resuming and may have more upside than her rivals.

Flemington Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Flying Khan

Although he didn't break through, Flying Khan showed raw ability throughout his first preparation before a tired end-of-campaign performance as a beaten favourite at Seymour.

He's returned a more furnished galloper, following a May 28 jump-out with a maiden breakthrough at Donald first-up on June 20 when well supported.

The three-year-old then contested the Silver Bowl Final at Flemington on July 4, where he overcame a wide draw and traffic to finish runner-up at big odds.

He recorded the fastest final 200m of that mile event and meets many of those rivals again.

Ideally, this would be over even further, but the extra 100m still suits third-up, and while many of the key dangers are deep into their preparations, Flying Khan still has improvement to come.

Flemington Best Bet - Race 8 No. 12 Think Giant

A two-time winner in France, Think Giant won over this distance in June last year, was stakes placed in August 2025 and contested a Group 1 before joining Australian connections.

Two encouraging Cranbourne jump-outs preceded his Australian debut, with the Caulfield run effectively another trial.

Ridden conservatively under a big weight over 1700m, he made nice ground along the inside from the rear and should derive plenty of benefit from that performance.

Although this is a rise in grade, these high off-season staying Benchmark races are often there for progressive types to win, while he drops a significant 8kg with Craig Williams taking the ride.

The son of Lope de Vega is suited by the extra 300m second-up and can get on the board for the Price & Kent Jnr stable.

VRC Member Andrew Bostock Trophy Tips (Race 9)

Flemington Roughie - Race 9 No. 2 Nimbustwothousand

There hasn't been much to fault with Nimbustwothousand since a start-three miss where a slow recovery was noted.

His only major failure subsequently came at Mornington on April 18, when cardiac arrhythmia was detected for the first time, resulting in a short break.

The four-year-old returned with a third in Benchmark 84 company at Sandown before sticking on well from an impossible position at Caulfield on June 27 in another Benchmark 84.

That race was won by Winnasedge, who franked the form with a Group 3 victory last Saturday, while his only previous Flemington straight-track run resulted in a narrow second behind Stoli Bolli.

Stoli Bolli bolted in two starts later in stronger grade before producing a competitive Listed performance, and despite an average starting price of just under $5.50 from nine starts this season, a double-figure quote is available with the drop back to Benchmark 78 grade.
