Rublev was struggling for form, but after capturing the title in Bastad last week, he's continued his winning momentum, advancing into the Estoril quarter-finals and remaining the deserved favourite to make it back-to-back trophies.

This looks like a great draw for Rublev to extend his winning streak to six matches.

Van Assche just hasn't impressed me since reaching his career-high ranking of No. 63 as a teenager back in 2023.

It's been a challenging couple of seasons for Rublev, but the Russian could be turning a corner after ending a 17-month title drought with victory in Bastad. The triumph should provide a significant confidence boost and valuable momentum heading into the remainder of the summer.

Rublev's run to the title was particularly encouraging given he had lost five straight matches against top-20 opponents before defeating Luciano Darderi in the final. Along the way, he also recorded impressive victories over Alejandro Tabilo and Sebastian Baez to secure the trophy.

After arriving in Bastad on the back of a three-match losing streak, Rublev has quickly rediscovered his form. Now making his Estoril debut as the tournament's top seed, the 28-year-old has an excellent opportunity to build on that success, continue his winning momentum and move closer to a return to the world's top 10 ahead of the North American hard-court swing.

Rublev got his Estoril title bid off to the perfect start, crushing Timofey Skatov 6-1 6-1 after an opening round bye, winning 29 of 39 points behind his serve.

The Frenchman made the quarter-finals of Marrakech before advancing to the second round of Roland Garros and Umag, with his best results coming on clay. He also won a Challenger title in Parma during that period.

Van Assche has reached his second ATP quarter-final of 2026 in Estoril this week, overcoming local wildcard Frederico Ferreira Silva 7-5 6-7(4) 6-1 before earning a solid 6-3 4-6 6-2 victory over former champion Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round, converting five of eight break points.
