Bublik hasn't been at his best over the last few months, but the top seed thrives in the altitude of Kitzbuhel, extending his winning streak in the Austrian city to six matches - and he's won all of them in straight sets after taking the title last year.

I still don't think the Kazakh is in the most reliable form right now, but he's getting the job done this week and while Etcheverry is a dangerous player - especially on clay - his record against elite players makes for very dire reading.

Indeed, Etcheverry has won just one of his 28 previous meetings against players ranked in the top 15. That's absolutely grim, especially for a player with big weapons like his serve and forehand. There's a clear mental roadblock here.

This is probably one of Etcheverry's better chances to secure a rare win against a top player, but I just can't back him with that record and Bublik loving these conditions.

So I'm taking Bublik to prevail as the main play, with another stake on at least one tiebreak, with the pair playing two in their only previous tour-level encounter.

Although Bublik remains just outside the world's top 10 after lifting the Hong Kong title at the start of the season, his form has cooled over the last few months.

The Kazakh has struggled to maintain the consistency that propelled him into the elite, posting a modest 9-7 record against players ranked outside the top 50 since March. After making significant improvements to his focus, mentality and week-to-week reliability over the previous 12 months, some of those old habits have begun to creep back into his game, with his recent results reflecting that decline.

Bublik enjoyed a solid Wimbledon campaign, reaching the fourth round, but couldn't back it up in Gstaad, where he exited in his opening match as the defending champion. He pushed Quentin Halys all the way before falling 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(5) in a deciding-set tiebreak.

The 29-year-old arrived in Kitzbuhel looking to successfully defend another title and made the ideal start, defeating Facundo Diaz Acosta 6-3, 7-5. Bublik struck eight aces and won an impressive 81 per cent of points behind his first serve in a confident opening-round performance.

Bublik then backed it up with fairly dominant 6-3 6-2 triumph over Alex Molcan in the quarter-finals, avenging his defeat to the Slovakian from Munich earlier in the year. Bublik converted four of his eight break points and recovered from serving a staggering five double faults in a single game in the second set to close out the win in convincing fashion.

Etcheverry put together a great start to the season, making the third round of the Australian Open before reaching the semi-finals of Buenos Aires and claiming his maiden ATP title at the 500 event in Rio.

However, Etcheverry's form tailed off after that and this is the first time he's won three matches in a row since February.

The Argentine arrived in Kitzbuhel on a six-match losing streak from Hamburg to Umag, but has recaptured some of his best tennis to advance into a third semi-final of 2026.

Etcheverry eased past qualifier Jurij Rodionov 6-2 7-6 in his opening match after a first round bye before registering a good 6-2 7-5 victory over the in-form Ignacio Buse in the quarter-finals.
