Third seed Alex de Minaur faces an Austrian wildcard for the second match in a row in Vienna when he meets Filip Misolic in the second round on Wednesday night.

After dispatching Jurij Rodionov in straight sets in his Vienna opener, de Minaur now turns his attention to Misolic, who has only ever played one second round match at a tour-level event on hardcourt. Suffice to say, the Aussie is the overwhelming favourite. De Minaur has racked up a tour-leading 38 match wins on hardcourt this season and is an expert at beating those that are ranked below him. At No. 95, Misolic certainly fits the bill.

In saying that, Misolic has put together a career-best season to crack the top 100 for the first time and he'll be buoyed by the home crowd support in Vienna. I can see the Austrian keeping this one competitive for a while, but De Minaur should prove too strong in the end.

De Minaur has put together another ultra-consistent season and heads into this contest with a 51-19 record, leading the tour for most hardcourt victories with 38.

The Aussie's best results have included winning his 10th career title in Washington, reaching Grand Slam quarter-finals at the Australian Open and US Open and a semi-final run at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Currently No. 7 in the race, de Minaur has also played well indoors this season, winning nine of his 11 matches - including making the Rotterdam final at the start of the year.

De Minaur continued his good form with a routine 6-4 6-1 dispatch of Rodionov in the first round of Vienna - a triumph that also doubled as his 300th tour-level win, becoming just the second player born after 1999 to achieve the feat.

Filip Misolic Form

Misolic comes into this clash with a 9-8 record at tour-level for the season, rising into the world's top 100 for the first time following a series of good results at Challenger level.

The Austrian has won two Challenger title and made the final of another so far in 2025, while he also reached the quarter-finals of the ATP event in Bastad and the third round as a qualifier at the French Open.

However, it's been a tough little period for Misolic lately - he was on a six-match losing streak before qualifying in Stockholm last week, where he lost in the first round.

After two opening round losses in Vienna, Misolic finally opened his account at his home tournament, defeating Argentine clay courter Camilo Ugo Carabelli in straight sets in the first round.

De Minaur is the deserved heavy favourite here, but Misolic is having a career-best year and he could rise to the occasion playing in front of a home crowd against a top 10 player.
