Sydney FC aims to retain their position at the top of the A-League as they visit Central Coast Mariners in Gosford. Despite their recent derby loss, Sydney has been in strong form, highlighted by a previous 2-0 victory against the Mariners. Central Coast remains unbeaten at home, bolstered by strong goalkeeping from Andrew Redmayne. The Mariners hold a 2-2-2 record, relying heavily on their home performance. However, Sydney's overall superiority and offensive strength might see them hand the Mariners their first home defeat this season.

Central Coast Mariners vs Sydney FC Tips & Prediction

Sydney FC will be looking to maintain their spot at the top of the A-League ladder when they make the short trip north to Gosford to face Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night.

Despite seeing their four-game winning streak snapped by the Wanderers in last week's derby, Sydney still find themselves sitting pretty at the top of the table coming into Round 7 - and they will be confident of turning things around having already dispatched the Mariners comfortably earlier this season. Central Coast, to their credit, have proven a tough team to crack in opening the season and have actually gone unbeaten at Polytec Stadium - including holding reigning premiers Melbourne City to a 0-0 draw last week.

However, they are holding on by the skin of their teeth - former Sydney goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne has made a total of 25 saves so far this term, more than any other shot-stopper. Sydney have been the form team to start the season and a narrow derby defeat doesn't change much in my view. Backing the Sky Blues to emerge victorious, while only one team to score also offers a bit of value.

Head To Head

Sydney have won the last two meetings between the teams, including a 2-0 triumph back in Round 2 after goals from Victor Campuzano and Patrick Wood.

Central Coast Mariners Form Analysis

The Mariners come into this contest with an even 2-2-2 record and currently just outside the finals places in seventh on the ladder.

Home form has proved crucial, with Central Coast going unbeaten in their three games at Polytec Stadium, including an opening round derby win over rivals Newcastle.

Central Coast also picked up a valuable three points on the road against Perth Glory, which looks like a decent result now given Perth's recent form.

The Mariners followed that up with a 3-2 loss away to the Wanderers, but held firm last week as Redmayne produced another masterful goalkeeping display to help his side secure a 0-0 draw with Melbourne City.

Sydney FC Form Analysis

It's been a great start to the season for Sydney, with the pressure easing on Ufuk Talay after the heavyweight club failed to make the finals last term.

Sydney put together a fantastic four-game winning streak after losing their opening round to Adelaide, toppling the Mariners (2-0), Jets (4-1), Macarthur (2-0) and Victory (3-0) to surge to the top of the table.

Joe Lolley has been in excellent form, with the former Nottingham Forest winger leading the goalscoring charts with four.

However, Lolley couldn't inspire his side to a fifth straight victory last week, with the Sky Blues falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Wanderers, seeing their streak of four straight derby wins at CommBank snapped.

Sydney have won four of their last five games and beat the Mariners 2-0 earlier in the campaign - they are the superior side and backed to inflict Central Coast's first defeat in Gosford for the season.
