2025 State of Origin Game 3 First Try Scorer

In Game 2 it was Tamika Upton who scored the first try for QLD breaking the overwhelming trend of a NSW player scoring first in the 5 games previous. The trend of a back scoring first held firm with Upton crossing from her position as fullback.

NSW were dominant in Game 1 despite a number of changes to the side. The Blues right centre Jessica Sergis was the first player to cross the line for a try. Historically the right centre hasn’t had a great deal of tryscoring form for any team having the fewest tries scored across the back 5 of each team in the past 3 years.

The Left Wing position has seen the most tries for any position on the park with Jayme Fressard scoring a double in Game 1 for NSW and Julia Robinson having scored 2 tries in the 3 game series last year for QLD. Fressard also crossed for a four pointer in Game 2.

QLD scoring first in Game 2 can be counted as a lucky one, NSW are likely to once again dominate the game puttting pressure on early crossing for the first try of the match.

  • A fullback has scored first in 2 of the last 5 Origin Games, a centre in 2 of 5 with the final being a dummy half..
  • NSW have scored first in 4 of the last 6 games.
  • Olivia Kernick scored twice and ran for over 200 metres in Game 2.
  • Jayme Fressard has scored in both games this series.

Based on these trends and their current try scoring form, here are our top 3 picks for the first try scorer in State of Origin Game 3.

Jayme Fressard - NSW

Fressard has crossed in both games so far this series and has an ability to find the tryline with exceptional finishing qualities. Look for NSW to exploit the edges after sucking in the forwards to the middle of the field.

Jaime Chapman - NSW

Chapman has scored in 3 of the last 5 Origin games and showed in Game 2 how quick and evasive she is when given a bit of room to run, completely standing up the QLD fullback to cross for a try in the 2nd half.

Olivia Kernick - NSW

Kernick scored twice in Game 2 thanks to her ability to break tackles and QLD’s poor middle defence. Not only did they fall off her multiple times but allowed Taufa to also just run straight through the middle for a try. A forward will score in this game, just a question of who!
