Seven new faces in the Blues side for Game 1 had them coming into the match as underdogs after losing the 2024 series with back to back loses in games two and three. However, against the odds NSW connected early and never really looked back, busting up the Maroons defence and keeping their opponents scoreless in the second half to walk away victors 32-12 in the opener.

It is no surprise that coach John Strange has not made any changes to his 17 coming into Game 2, while Queensland has added grunt to their pack with the inclusion of Chelsea Lendarduzzi.

Although the Maroons are expected to be better and their defensive line to close the gaps that the Blues attack found at will in Game 1, they will not be able to deny NSW victory and their first series win in the 3-game era.

NSW centre Isabelle Kelly became the leading try scorer in Women’s Origin with her fifth in Game 1 and she is expected to add to that tally after being clearly the most dangerous player on the field in the opener.

Also to note is that both teams scored within the opening first 10 minutes of Game 1. An early try is a clear trend in the women’s Origin arena with the opening 4-pointer occurring in 7 of the last 9 origin matches.

  • NSW's 20-point winning margin was their biggest victory against Queensland in 27 years.
  • 5 of the last 6 NSW victories have been by a margin of 1-12
  • The first try has been scored within the first 10 minutes in 7 of 9 matches since 2020.
  • Isabelle Kelly had a try and 2 try assists in Game 1.

Head to Head

NSW dominated the opening match taking a dominant 32-12 victory with 9 linebreaks to 1 against the Maroons.

NSW holds a 7-5 advantage in State of Origin.

NSW Blues Women Form Analysis

The new-look Blues, which had a new coach and 7 new players for Game 1 looked like they had been a unit for years, blitzing the Queensland with some slick attack that saw them put up their biggest winning margin against the Maroons with a 32-12 victory.

Jayme Fressard crossed twice for the Blues, while centre Isabelle Kelly was awarded Player of the Match with a try, 2 try assists, 2 linebreaks and 2 linebreak assists. The NRLW Sydney Rooster got plenty of early ball from half Jesse Southwell, who was also a standout in game 1 with a couple of linebreak assists of her own, along with a try assist.

The Blues controlled the ball and were incredibly dangerous in attack, breaking the Queensland line 9 times with 29 tackle busts. However, the Blues were just as impressive without the ball in hand,, blanking the Maroons in the second half with dye goal line defence.

Queensland Maroons Women Form Analysis

Queensland dropped Game One in 2024 and repeated that performance in 2025, lacking the grunt up front and the flair in the backline to stay with the Blues in the opening match of the series.

The Maroons mustered just 1,027 run metres all match compared with the 1,545 that the Blues put on them. A lot had to do with Queensland unable to break the NSW line, losing that count 1-9. Statistically, another figure to take out is that the Blues managed to walk their way down the field with an average set distance of 42.92m compared to Queensland’s 34.23m.

Sienna Lofipo was outstanding defensively in her second Origin match, leading the way with 37 tackles at 94.87% efficiency and also bagging one of the Queensland tries.
