Echuca Tips June 23
Best Bet
Race 6 No. 3 Royal Inference
The five-year-old has shown a liking for wet conditions in the past, with all three of his career victories coming on Soft tracks, including when resuming at Ararat last month.
The gelding has continued to race well in two subsequent starts, finishing in the top four on both occasions.
His latest effort saw him race on the speed before finishing second at Mount Gambier just under two weeks ago.
Competing over 1400m on a Heavy 9 surface, Royal Inference was beaten just under six lengths after jumping from barrier eight.
He draws much more favourably here and, with Sarah Field claiming 1.5kg, the drop in grade looks another positive for his chances.
Value Bet
Race 8 No. 11 Artful Lodger
The mare has made just three appearances this preparation, with her best result a third-place finish at Pakenham at the end of last month.
That effort came on a Heavy 8 surface, where she raced on the pace before being beaten just over two lengths.
The run was her first after a spell and she is expected to take improvement from the 1100m Class 1 performance.
While she has been well beaten in both previous attempts at this distance, the latest effort suggested she is worth another chance over the trip.
A recent scratching from a Moe engagement to run here catches the eye and, despite a wide barrier, Artful Lodger appeals as a value contender.
Market Mover
Race 1 No. 7 West Forty Seventh
The four-year-old has registered two encouraging efforts in defeat this preparation, including a sixth-place finish when resuming at Geelong.
Racing on a Soft track over 1300m, the gelding was beaten less than two lengths.
He returned to Geelong last time and finished fourth over 1412m on Heavy ground.
Punters have taken notice, with West Forty Seventh firming from $12 into $8 with Ladbrokes.
Stats Say
Jockey Billy Egan has enjoyed success at this venue this season, boasting a 33% strike-rate (3/9).
The rider is booked for three rides on the program in races two, three and four.
Two of those mounts are expected to be prominent in betting, including Spicy Apple.
The gelding is likely to start favourite after finishing third at Swan Hill last time and has proven form on Heavy ground.
