New Zealand Warriors vs North QLD Cowboys NRL Round 16 Tips

New Zealand Warriors vs North QLD Cowboys, Round 16 2026 - Expert Prediction

North Queensland look like the value side with a 10.5-point start, while the under 50.5 total stands out as the strongest play based on recent form and the model projections.

The Warriors are deserved favourites at home, but the market may have overreacted. The projection has New Zealand by just 0.9 points, with a fair line closer to pick'em than the current -10.5 handicap. The Cowboys have lost their last two games, but they remain an experienced side capable of competing when fully fit, and the return of Jeremiah Nanai provides a major boost.

The total is the stronger angle. The model projects 48.6 points against a market line of 50.5, while the Warriors have become involved in low-scoring contests recently, losing 10-8 to Cronulla and 20-18 to Penrith in consecutive matches.

Te Maire Martin is an anytime try scorer worth considering after crossing in four consecutive games. The Warriors halfback has become a genuine support-play threat around the middle and continues to find his way onto the scoresheet.

Take North Queensland +10.5, Under 50.5 Total Points and Te Maire Martin Anytime Tryscorer.

The model projects Warriors by only 0.9 points compared to the market line of -10.5.
The under holds a 62.9% projected probability from the model.
Four of the Warriors' last five games have produced 50 points or fewer.
Te Maire Martin has scored four tries in his last four games.

Head to Head

The Warriors have dominated this matchup recently, winning four of the last five meetings.

They defeated North Queensland 30-26 last season and recorded convincing victories of 42-12, 26-12 and 22-14 in the three meetings prior. The Cowboys' only win in the last five came back in 2022 when they produced a 48-4 blowout.

Despite the Warriors' recent dominance, most of those games have been competitive enough to suggest the current handicap may be slightly inflated.

New Zealand Warriors Form Analysis

The Warriors remain second on the ladder despite suffering back-to-back narrow losses to Penrith and Cronulla.

Defensively they continue to be among the competition's best sides, conceding just 13.6 points per game across their last five matches. Their attack has also remained solid, averaging 26.8 points per game despite personnel disruptions caused by injuries and Origin commitments.

The move to Christchurch for the first match at One NZ Stadium should create a strong home atmosphere, but the Warriors are still without James Fisher-Harris and Leka Halasima, while several Origin players face short turnarounds.

North Queensland Cowboys Form Analysis

The Cowboys enter off a bye after losses to the Dolphins and Raiders, but the break may have come at the perfect time.

North Queensland have welcomed back Jeremiah Nanai and Braidon Burns, with further reinforcements possible through John Bateman. Their season has been inconsistent, but they still average 24 points per game and possess plenty of strike through Scott Drinkwater, Murray Taulagi and Nanai.

The concern remains defence, with the Cowboys conceding 25.8 points per game across their last five outings. However, against a Warriors side that has scored only 26 points total in its last two matches, they should have enough resilience to stay within the number.
