NRL Team Lists Round 16: Turbo Returns, Best Back For Knights, Origin Stars On Watch


Round 16 team lists have landed and several clubs receive timely boosts heading into the post-Origin period. Tom Trbojevic returns for Manly after a lengthy hamstring layoff, Bradman Best is back for Newcastle, while the Roosters welcome back a host of Origin representatives. 

Penrith, Melbourne, Canberra and Cronulla have named their Origin stars but late changes remain possible following Wednesday night's State of Origin clash.

Knights vs Dragons

Friday 8:00pm at McDonald Jones Stadium

Knights

Bradman Best returns after five weeks out with a hamstring injury, providing a major boost to Newcastle's backline. Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Lucas have both been named despite Origin duties, while Thomas Cant starts in the back row following Jermaine McEwen's club suspension.

Dragons

Luciano Leilua returns after spending time in NSW Cup following Jaydn Su'A's pectoral injury. Emre Guler is also back, while Christian Tuipulotu has been named in the extended squad as he pushes to return from a hamstring issue.

Apisai Koroisau has been named to back up from Origin, while Adam Doueihi is a chance of returning from a shoulder injury after being named in the extended squad. Tony Sukkar starts in the back row following Kai Pearce-Paul's pectoral injury.

Dolphins

Kristian Woolf sticks with the same side that dismantled the Roosters last week. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Thomas Flegler and Selwyn Cobbo are rested following Origin commitments, while Max Plath and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki have been named among the reserves.

Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Jojo Fifita have both been named to back up from Origin. Lachlan Ilias returns to the NRL squad for the first time since Round 9 after being named on the extended bench.

Panthers

Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo and Brian To'o have all been named in the reserves and will be monitored after Origin II. Jack Cogger has been selected at halfback, while Penrith have shuffled their backline due to injuries and representative commitments.

Luke Metcalf and Rocco Berry have also been recalled after time in NSW Cup.

Cowboys

Jeremiah Nanai is set to play his first game since Round 9 after recovering from a shoulder injury. Braidon Burns also returns, prompting a reshuffle that sees Zac Laybutt move into the centres and Jaxon Purdue switch to five-eighth. Veteran English forward John Bateman is listed in the extended squad and could make his first NRL appearance of the season.
