Flemington stages a competitive nine-race metropolitan program on Saturday, with a blend of progressive three-year-olds, proven wet-track performers and in-form gallopers lining up across the card.

Several runners arrive off impressive recent victories, while others look ready to peak as the winter racing season begins to gather momentum.

Flemington Tips June 20

Rod Johnson Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Flemington Favourite - Race 4 No. 9 Prestar

Prestar can be supported whichever way he goes, with the McEvoy-trained galloper also engaged for a 0-66 contest at Geelong on Friday.

That is the softer option; however, there is much better prize money on offer on Saturday, and this is not a vintage three-year-old affair.

Should he take the metropolitan option, he will carry 7kg less than he did first-up.

After showing promise early in his career, Prestar was gelded ahead of his May 27 return at Caulfield Heath following a previous campaign that tapered off late.

It was a brilliant fresh effort, covering ground throughout before being narrowly picked off late in a race that has already produced a subsequent metropolitan winner, while rain-affected ground brings him further into contention, given both career victories have come on Heavy tracks.

2026 Country Achiever Cindy Alderson Tips (Race 5)

Flemington Best Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Ten Commandments

It was a monster return victory from Ten Commandments, who put up a four-and-a-half-length margin in a Sandown Benchmark 70 on May 31.

That was despite racing keenly and covering ground throughout the 1200m contest.

Jabez Johnstone remains in the saddle, and the talented apprentice has been in outstanding form, striking at 42% in June.

That includes a winning double for Ciaron Maher at the previous Flemington meeting on June 6.

Ten Commandments has found another gear for the new yard, drops 4.5kg from his resumption and is an out-and-out wet-tracker, with all seven victories coming on rain-affected ground, which includes a perfect two-from-two record on Heavy tracks.

Brian Beattie Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Flemington Roughie - Race 7 No. 11 Contemporary

It was only an even effort in the Golden Topaz, where Contemporary was a month between runs after a Wangoom performance that was better than it reads.

The campaign began in April in a strong edition of the Hareeba Stakes.

The former Godolphin galloper has placed in both attempts down the Flemington straight, including a Group 3 third in January.

He has proven effective on all surfaces, highlighted by a Listed placing on a Soft 7 last winter and a Heavy 8 victory in Sydney when completing a hat-trick in 2024.

Contemporary needs to find sharp improvement, but Lindsey Smith's stable is beginning to fire with three winners from its last 10 starters and, in what is the weakest race he has contested this preparation, a bold showing would not surprise at big odds.

The David Bourke Tips (Race 8)

Flemington Value Bet - Race 8 No. 15 Beach Pad

There was a much softer race available for Beach Pad at Caulfield Heath on Wednesday at Benchmark 70 level.

Connections have instead opted for this Open Handicap, leaving the five-year-old right down in the weights on the 53kg minimum.

That is 7.5kg less than he carried when winning second-up, and this aggressive placement suggests the stable is aiming to strike while the iron is hot.

Beach Pad returned with a good effort at Warrnambool before scoring comfortably with 60.5kg during the Swan Hill Carnival.

The drop in weight is significant and, while a mile presents a slight query for a horse who was successful over further last autumn, that stamina could prove valuable over what is likely to be a testing 1620m.

Country Racing Victoria Trophy Tips (Race 9)

Flemington Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 8 Paddypie

Patrick Payne's stable has been in terrific form over recent months, operating at a 22% strike-rate from its last 100 runners.

The Payne and Billy Egan combination has also been particularly effective, striking at better than 35% this season.

They combine with the unbeaten Paddypie, who is chasing a hat-trick of victories against his own age group.

The three-year-old justified favouritism in both starts, recording the fastest closing sectionals of the Seymour meeting on May 21.

He then showed a sharp turn-of-foot off a slow tempo at Donald, handling the rise in distance while posting the quickest final 200m of the meeting, and the progressive type looks capable of taking the step up to metropolitan level.
