Ipswich's premier meeting of the year takes centre stage on Saturday, with a nine-race program featuring three black-type contests, including the Listed Ipswich Cup.

Ray White Ipswich Class 6 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Yes Lulu

It's a sharp rise in the weights; however, it's also a significant drop in class third-up for Yes Lulu, who arrives off a Group 3 placing in the Dark Jewel Classic at Scone.

She beat home subsequent Brisbane winner Surfin' Bird in that event and also finished ahead of the talented Melody Again.

Melody Again is prominent in betting for the Listed Eye Liner Stakes later on the card, giving that form additional substance.

Third-up has proven the sweet spot for the Ciaron Maher-trained mare, who has won her last two starts at this stage of a preparation.

The only third-up defeat of her career also resulted in a Group 3 placing and, with even luck from a low draw, class should take her a long way at this level.

Schweppes TL Cooney Tips (Race 5)

Ipswich Favourite - Race 5 No. 1 Navy Pilot

Ability was evident as both a two-year-old and an early three-year-old, but after failing to progress during a spring campaign that tapered off following a second-up win, Navy Pilot was gelded.

The Bendigo return on May 2 was outstanding, with the gelding recording the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m of the entire program.

His Fred Best Classic performance is harder to assess, with the run plain on face value.

There was nearly a month between runs heading into that assignment, while the jockey reported that an inside draw worked against him.

If you're prepared to forgive that effort, Navy Pilot looks very well placed at set weights in a significantly easier race and a sharp bounce-back would come as no surprise.

Barrier Reef Pools Eye Liner Stakes Tips (Race 8)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Cifrado

Giving weight to most of his rivals is the obvious query, however an each-way quote remains available for Cifrado.

The Toowoomba galloper is flying, having opened his account with a Listed victory on the Gold Coast.

He then went within a whisker of completing the double when narrowly beaten in the Group 3 BRC Sprint by Abounding.

A nice tick-over trial has been completed since that May 23 performance.

Cifrado has turned things around after a disappointing 2025 and, importantly, boasts a win and a second from two starts at Ipswich, a valuable asset on a track that many horses struggle to handle.

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 9 No. 16 Silver Wedding

A full sister to Group 1 winner Schwartz, Silver Wedding is an improving mare from the Ciaron Maher stable.

The daughter of Zoustar recorded back-to-back Brisbane victories last campaign before that preparation culminated in New Zealand.

While 1000m is generally short of her best, that overseas trip appears to have brought her on further.

She bolted in first-up at Eagle Farm on May 30 over five furlongs, and there was strong late market support leading into that return.

This looks the black-type target for the campaign, something connections will be eager to secure given her pedigree, and now on the 53kg minimum at 1200m against her own sex, Silver Wedding looks one of the few runners specifically set for this race.
