Rosehill Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Hello Captain
Appearing the most obvious on-top selection on Saturday's Rosehill program is Hello Captain, a much-deserving favourite for the fifth.
The winning streak ended at Randwick on January 20 as an odds-on favourite, where barrier one proved costly for the Chris Waller-trained youngster, who was badly held up in the straight.
It no doubt cost him the race, and once shouldering into the clear at the 200m, he was simply left with too much to do, yet he was still only a few strides from saluting.
This is no harder, with Gorgeous the second market elect, and while she's a talented filly who had no luck at Listed level second-up, she has had her chances since and was also a touch plain last week.
Hello Captain carries 2kg less than at his last attempt with Sienna Grima's claim, an apprentice who completed a treble at Rosehill last Saturday.
TAB Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Rosehill Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Lincoln Rocks
His two previous fourth-up attempts in Australia have included a very narrow Moonee Valley defeat in his first campaign for the Archibald stable, with Melbourne victories recorded either side of that loss.
The last fourth-up appearance rounded out his previous campaign with victory in the Kyneton Cup, although it was only an even return in May over the Warrnambool Carnival when heavily backed off a string of jump-out wins.
Second-up in very testing conditions saw him fail, but with a little freshen-up and an okay tick-over trial on June 10, the latest effort was far more encouraging, getting home with the third-fastest final 200m of that 1800m event.
Lincoln Rocks faces both a rise in distance and a drop in grade on Saturday to BM78 company, which are both positives.
He's more than capable of settling closer to the speed over this trip from a better draw and carries 0.5kg less than at his last victory at this level.
Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Eye Of The Fire
This honest sprinter was supported at an each-way quote via his June 20 resumption at Randwick in what was a brave on-speed performance by the son of Epaulette.
Eye Of The Fire was softened up in an on-speed duel with a rival who dropped out, but never gave up the fight in finishing runner-up, with the favourite ultimately capitalising with a softer run in transit and pouncing late.
He arrives off a consistent campaign, with the only poor performance coming when seventh at the end of his last preparation at Rosehill over 1400m, a distance he doesn't get.
The second-up performance of that campaign was a runner-up finish at Rosehill behind Bev's Nine when favourite, a galloper that was last seen taking out a Listed race in May.
He doesn't necessarily have to lead here but can settle at least in the first few pairs from barrier six, and this is a slightly easier assignment than what he faced fresh.
Schweppes Winter Stakes Tips (Race 9)
Rosehill Feature Bets - Race 9 No. 6 Mchale & No. 13 Pippie Beach
Chris Waller has accepted with three gallopers in a very competitive Winter Stakes, and all are at big prices, with the best of his chances being Mchale and Pippie Beach.
Mchale was the pick of the closers from the Civic Stakes lead-up on June 20, running the fastest closing sectionals of that Randwick feature, and he could potentially settle a bit closer here from a low draw.
The main knock is that he was likely well prepared for that fresh run with a great first-up record, although his only other victory outside of those fresh wins came second-up.
Pippie Beach has been campaigning fairly in Queensland, the latest seeing her settle too far back at Eagle Farm and perhaps not run out a strong mile.
She brings a good Rosehill record, is effective on all surfaces and, even more importantly, has produced winning form when deep into a preparation via her previous two campaigns.
Petaluma Handicap Tips (Race 10)
Rosehill Favourite - Race 10 No. 9 Tarzing
This lightly raced four-year-old can continue to work through the grades over winter.
While this is technically a rise in grade to BM78 company, Tarzing reeled in Big Papa last Saturday at Rosehill, a promising galloper who's got as much talent and upside as anything he faces here.
That second-up victory followed an unlucky return effort when third behind Surf's Up, who also franked that form with another win on last Saturday's card.
He showed above-average ability with back-to-back Victorian wins to open his career over summer before an end-of-preparation third, and after the 2kg claim from Sienna Grima, he carries the same 56kg impost as last Saturday.
Tarzing is the one to beat, with Silvanito the value runner in the last, a six-year-old who has been good without luck in both starts this preparation and draws much kinder for this third-up attempt.
