Randwick-Kensington Roughie - Race 1 No. 9 Belladiana
John Sargent excels with these young middle-distance and staying types, something further reinforced by Global Goal’s victory in the Group 1 Flight Stakes last Saturday, and he introduces another interesting prospect in Belladiana.
Sargent also knows the family well, with Belladiana’s half-sister Meridiana in his stable, and the older sibling is a three-time metropolitan winner and stakes-placed mare who interestingly won on debut over the Randwick-Kensington 1400m in March last year.
The daughter of Circus Maximus was spelled after a May 15 trial and has completed two Sydney heats leading into Wednesday’s debut assignment, working through the line well on both occasions after producing an eye-catching second in the first and not being knocked about late in the latest.
Alysha Collett has partnered Belladiana in both spring hit-outs and stays aboard for race day, giving her some valuable continuity heading into her first start.
The 1400m looks a suitable starting point for a filly likely to prosper over further ground as she develops, but she appears forward enough to run a cheeky race on debut and a big price is available.

Randwick-Kensington Best Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Alabama Fox
Consistency has been a hallmark of Alabama Fox’s career, with the Archibald-trained mare missing the top four only twice, both ninth-place finishes coming when deep into her first campaign at Group 3 level and she was far from disgraced in either.
The market drift leading into her September 23 return indicated she would need the hit-out fresh, making the runner-up finish more than a pass mark after she split a pair who both held a fitness advantage, while the winner was dropping significantly in grade for that midweek assignment.
She has always improved with a run under her belt, winning at start two of her first preparation before again progressing second-up last spring when runner-up in a four-horse field behind Frosty Girl, with third-placed Pictor having beaten a subsequent Group 1 winner at his previous start and later finishing Group 3 placed when last seen in April.
Alabama Fox was freshened after that spring run before bouncing off a runner-up finish on December 20 and rounding out the preparation with a Randwick victory on January 3, further highlighting how well she can progress through a campaign.
The five-year-old should again take improvement from her fresh effort and, returning to a suitable 1400m second-up, looks well placed to convert another consistent preparation into a win.
Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 5)
Randwick-Kensington Value Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Uzziah
The Armidale Cup winner is being aimed towards The Big Dance after earning his place in the Randwick Melbourne Cup Day feature with a dominant victory on March 13, where he bolted in despite carrying 61.5kg.
Uzziah carries half a kilo less on Wednesday after Anna Roper’s claim, with the apprentice having also been aboard when he finished third of 13 over the Randwick mile on April 25 behind Nobler and Bella Montagna.
That form has subsequently stacked up particularly well, with Nobler going on to complete a hat-trick across May and June, while runner-up Bella Montagna has been Group placed in three of her next five appearances.
Although those strongest recent references came over further, Uzziah is more than capable fresh over sprint trips with three wins and two placings on his first-up record, including an easy metropolitan victory over 1200m in this grade, while he also came to hand quickly last campaign when placing fresh before conceding 6kg to the winner when runner-up over the Randwick 1200m on February 7.
The main query is the track because he would not want conditions any wetter than the Soft 7 range, but he maps kindly and, with plenty of proven first-up form behind him, can give this a serious shake at an each-way price.
Exceedance @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Randwick-Kensington Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Octa De Lago
We were with Octa De Lago first-up at big odds on the September 23 Warwick Farm program and, although frustratingly there was no collect with a fourth-of-nine finish, the effort was difficult to ignore after he recorded the fastest last 800m and 600m of the entire meeting.
That performance carried further merit given the race favoured those closer to the speed, with the eventual trifecta all settling within the first four in running, while Octa De Lago remains lightly raced for a five-year-old and displayed plenty of ability throughout his previous campaign.
He opened that preparation with a second behind the handy Big Papa before being defeated as an odds-on favourite, then atoned third-up at Gosford to start the new year.
The highlight came on February 19 when he won a Provincial-Midway Championship Qualifier at Hawkesbury, getting the better of the talented Oui Oui Oui in a race that has subsequently produced multiple metropolitan winners, before he covered ground in the Provincial-Midway Championships Final and could be forgiven for that performance.
Octa De Lago is not renowned for tactical speed but did take up a handy enough position from a low draw when second-up last summer, and with Dylan Gibbons having barrier two at his disposal he gets every opportunity to settle closer and capitalise on the strong finish he displayed first-up.
