The upcoming Stradbroke Handicap 2025 highlights prominent racehorses such as War Machine, Rise At Dawn, and Private Eye, showcasing the strategic barrier placements and weights. War Machine's recent performances have secured it a place in Queensland's premier race, while notable mentions include past winners like Alligator Blood and Think About It. The Hayes-trained galloper was able to secure a Stradbroke Handicap slot when bolting in with the BRC Sprint third-up at Doomben and he carries 3.5kg less for this Group 1 assignment.

The Hayes brothers also prepare Rise At Dawn (barrier 3) and this four-year-old does look better placed back to handicap level following a fifth-of-ten finish in the Kingsford-Smith Cup.

With eight wins and two seconds from 16 starts, Rise At Dawn has built a nice record and he was first-up in last Saturday's 1300m feature.

Connections decided to bypass the Kingsford-Smith Cup with Private Eye (barrier 10) and the seven-year-old will now resume in the Stradbroke Handicap.

The Group 1 winner has 57kg and he had the same impost when runner-up to Alligator Blood in the 2022 Stradbroke Handicap.

In last Saturday's Moreton Cup, Front Page (barrier 20) ended a winning drought that stretched back to the 2023 Kosciuszko, although the eight-year-old has placed in his last two Group 1 attempts.

Kimochi (barrier 14) was well-backed last Saturday via her fourth-place finish in the Kingsford-Smith Cup and she was seven weeks between runs there after pulling up lame in the All Aged Stakes.

The Gary Portelli-trained mare was a Group 1 handicap winner over this trip last spring, and she defeated the likes of Another Wil, Southport Tycoon, Climbing Star, Charm Stone, Jimmysstar and War Machine in that Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes triumph.

Zac Lloyd is aiming for back-to-back Stradbroke Handicap wins and he rides Bosustow (barrier 11), who was Group 1-placed in New Zealand either side of victories at the Gold Coast.

The three-year-old finished six-of-fifteen as favourite in last Wednesday's Fred Best Classic and he carries 5.5kg less from that last outing.

Yellow Brick (barrier 8) was well-held on return in the BRC Sprint, but a track switch suits the five-year-old, who has four wins and two seconds from six starts at Eagle Farm.

Stradbroke Handicap Winners

The Stradbroke Handicap was first run in 1890 and has a famous history, with Rough Habit (two occasions), All Our Mob and Dane Ripper some of the greats to have won this feature.

The race has been over 1400m for much of its history, but in 2014 and 2015, it was run over 1350m at Doomben due to track renovations at Eagle Farm.

This Group 1 is one of the more famous handicaps on the Australian racing calendar and is considered to be Queenland's premier race.

Alligator Blood (2022), Think About It (2023) and Stefi Magnetica (2024) have won the last three editions of the Stradbroke Handicap.
