The 2022 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes is an even edition, with a number of spring contenders continuing their campaigns over the Caulfield 1400m journey.

Mick Price & Mick Kent Jr spruik horse Ayrton (barrier four) returns to the races first-up, holding favouritism in the market and does draw perfectly to get the box seat in the run.

I Wish I Win (barrier 14) was a dominant last start winner at this track and trip, but is the second emergency so there is no guarantee that he even gets a start.

Showmanship (barrier 10) won at Group Three level last start in Sydney and will now carry 56.5kg in this feature which looks suitable given his class and what some of his opposition are carrying.

Last start Memsie Stakes fourth place getter Dragon Leap (barrier 15) looks well placed with 54.5kg but is the first emergency, while multiple Group One place getter Hilal has drawn barrier 20.

As usual, this Group One handicap is wide open with most horses given some sort of chance.

Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Winners

The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes is a favourite event of the punters heading into the spring.

First won in 1951 by Jovial Lad, the event was named the Invitation Stakes before eight separate name changes that led us to the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in 2015.

Gaining Group 1 status in 1979, the race's honour roll isn't as star-studded as other events but Encosta De Lago, Testa Rosa and Rebel Dane are among the winners of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
