An unbeaten galloper from the Daniel Morton stable, King Of Light has since justified a short quote in the Western Australian Guineas on November 22, producing a classy Group 2 victory to cement his place on the path to the Northerly Stakes.
This has been a strong race for three-year-olds, who account for 19 past Northerly Stakes winners, including six of the last 15, and the WA Guineas win only enhances his profile under the weight-for-age conditions, where King Of Light will carry just 52kg.
At $2.70 with Neds, King Of Light is favourite to win the 2025 Northerly Stakes.
After two November misses at short prices, Cosmic Crusader failed to secure a berth in the Railway Stakes, but he atoned with a strong Listed victory on November 15.
He's on the second line of betting at $7 alongside Western Empire, who backed up a strong return effort with a runner-up finish in the Railway Stakes, where he conceded 4kg to Watch Me Rock ($8), the winner of that Group 1.
Vivy Air ($11) has been in hot form, with the Ciaron Maher-trained visitor winning two of her last three attempts, and the latest was a Five Diamonds success over Transatlantic, who had won his previous two outings including the Group 1 Toorak Handicap.
A near 12-month absence hasn’t stopped Apulia this spring, with the entire opening his campaign with two wins in Melbourne, and a rise in distance to 1800m for the Northerly Stakes shaping as a logical next step.
The Hayes-trained galloper is a $13 chance, sharing that quote with Pure Excess, a three-year-old who was a last-start winner of the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes.

Northerly Stakes Winners
A Group 1 race that has undergone several name changes, it is best known to punters as the Kingston Town Classic (2007–2021) before its rebranding as the Northerly Stakes, named in honour of nine-time Group 1 winner Northerly — arguably the greatest horse ever produced from Western Australia.
Run over 1800m under weight-for-age conditions, the race has both launched the careers of emerging stars and showcased some of Australia’s finest gallopers, with champions such as Kingston Town, Vo Rogue and Better Loosen Up among its past winners.
