Ka Ying Rising heads to the 2025 Hong Kong Sprint with an imposing overall record and a long winning streak that already includes a dominant The Everest triumph at Randwick.

His latest success in the Group 2 Jockey Club Sprint at Sha Tin on November 23 only reinforced his status as the world’s benchmark sprinter, and he again dominates early markets as a $1.07 favourite with Ladbrokes.

Satono Reve ($13) ties the top form lines together, finishing runner-up to Ka Ying Rising in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize at Sha Tin in April before another second to Lazzat in the Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

Japan’s leading sprinter again looms as a serious threat if the tempo allows his explosive late finish to unfold.

Helios Express ($17) was strong late when third behind Ka Ying Rising in the Jockey Club Sprint, closing fast after settling back.

That effort followed his well-earned Group 3 Sha Tin Vase success earlier in May and underlined the John Size-trained gelding’s consistency as the leading local chaser.

Held each December at Sha Tin, the Hong Kong Sprint is one of four Group 1 features on Hong Kong International Raceday and the premier 1200m sprint of the meeting. Run as the Longines Hong Kong Sprint, this multi-million-dollar showpiece forms the sprinting leg of the global end-of-year championship at Sha Tin.

Run over 1200m under weight-for-age conditions and open to three-year-olds and up, the race regularly attracts a deep mix of local stars and international sprinters, with Hong Kong, Japanese and Australian-trained gallopers all featuring prominently among recent contenders and winners.

Zac Purton holds the jockeys’ record in the Hong Kong Sprint with four victories, while Ricky Yiu sits atop the trainers’ table with three wins in the event.
