Pericles (barrier 14) is a four-year-old who's well respected in the Epsom Handicap betting, a Godolphin galloper that was Group 1 placed as a short favourite in the Rosehill Guineas.
While he was competitive in many middle-distance and staying features as a three-year-old, Pericles appeared more effective over shorter distances, which was evident via a dominant Autumn Classic win at Sandown over 1800m.
With back-to-back wins open this campaign, his preparation ahead of the Epsom Handicap has been faultless and he does share the top weight of 56kg with My Oberon (barrier 18).
James Cummings also prepares Golden Mile (barrier 21) and the 2022 Caulfield Guineas winner has bounced back after a disappointing autumn by taking out the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes on September 3
Chris Waller has a big hand, with the champion trainer represented by Going Global (barrier 12), Kovalica (barrier 7), Madame Pommery (barrier 16), Democracy Manifest (barrier 1), Rediener (barrier 2), Waterford (barrier 20), Olentia (barrier 17) and Political Debate (barrier 20), with the latter being the second emergency.
Hope In Your Heart (barrier 10) was a model of consistency over her four-year-old season and she returned in fine style with a third behind Pericles in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes on September 2.
While she's still searching for her first Group 1 win, Hope In Your Heart was unlucky when fourth in the Doncaster Mile over this track/trip in April.

Epsom Handicap Winners
The Epsom Handicap is one of Sydney's top spring races, with over 150 years of history and has been over the mile journey for the majority of its lifetime, despite a brief period of five years where the Epsom was run at 1800m.
Named in honour of the famous Epsom Downs racecourse in England, this mile feature has seen the best of the best taking out the prize including Super Impose, Sky High, Imposing, Winx, and Nightmarch.
Probabeel (2020), Private Eye (2021) and Ellsberg/Top Ranked (dead heat - 2022) have won the last three editions of the Epsom Handicap.
