While he hasn't saluted in his three 2026 appearances, Jimmysstar has improved since a first-up failure in the William Reid Stakes, with a fifth-place finish in the TJ Smith Stakes, followed by a third-of-13 effort in the All Aged Stakes when unsuited.

All three of his Group 1 victories were recorded last year, and he showed his versatility in those major triumphs with a 1100m success in the Oakleigh Plate, while his last win of the calendar year came when stretching out to 1400m in the CF Orr Stakes.

At $2.50 with Unibet Australia, Jimmysstar leads the Doomben 10,000 markets for 2026.

Spelled after an impressive Group 3 victory on Cox Plate Day last year, Napoleonic ($4.60) opened his 2026 account with back-to-back seconds, which included a runner-up finish behind Tempted over this distance.

Following his Group 1 appearance in the Canterbury Stakes on March 7, the three-year-old has won two trials ahead of his Doomben 10,000 attempt.

Although he hasn't saluted since his Blue Diamond success last year, Devil Night ($10) is still racing very consistently, with three placings from as many starts this year.

After placing in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes won by a flying Jigsaw, the son of Extreme Choice split both Tempted and Grafterburners in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint.

Grafterburners ($10) was scratched from his scheduled return in The Galaxy and instead resumed in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Randwick on April 11, where he finished third in the Group 2 taken out by Tempted.

That was his first defeat of the season, having won all four outings in his first campaign of 2025/26, and keeping him to these sprint distances appears to be the key.

Private Eye ($14) is closing in on $13 million in career prizemoney, and the veteran sprinter/miler has trialled since a third-place finish when resuming in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes.

Doomben 10,000 Winners

The Doomben 10,000 dates back to 1933 and has long stood as one of Queensland’s premier sprint races.

The race was run over 1350m for much of its history before being reduced to 1200m in 2016, the distance at which it is contested today.

Champions such as Bernborough, Manikato, Apache Cat, Takeover Target and Doomben specialist Chief De Beers are among the notable winners of this feature.

George Moore remains the most successful jockey in Doomben 10,000 history with five wins, while T.J. Smith leads the trainers’ tally with six victories.

Giga Kick (2023), Bella Nipotina (2024) and Sunshine In Paris (2025) have won the past three editions of the Doomben 10,000.
