The Doomben 10,000 is the first Group 1 of the 2025 Brisbane Winter Carnival and this 1200m feature received a prizemoney boost in 2023, with the WFA sprint now worth $1.5 million in total (up from $1 million).

Given his poor second-up record and with the gelding also setting a strong speed in the Quokka, Overpass (barrier 10) can be forgiven for his last start defeat

The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper was only narrowly defeated prior to that when contesting the TJ Smith Stakes and he has previous form in this race, with a second behind Giga Kick in the 2023 running of the Doomben 10,000.

Sunshine In Paris (barrier 14) won the Group 1 Champions Sprint when finishing her 2024 spring campaign and she has drawn out in all three appearances this prep.

The five-year-old comes back to 1200m following a last start third in the All Aged Stakes, while it's worth noting that her last Group 1 victory was recorded fourth-up over this distance.

Benedetta (barrier 8) split Jimmysstar and Schwarz when runner-up in the William Reid Stakes, and the five-year-old arrived to that Group 1 assignment off an unlucky Newmarket Handicap attempt.

Her only Brisbane appearance resulted in an eighth-place finish in last year's Stradbroke Handicap.

Schwarz (barrier 11) has won two trials following an all-the-way victory in the William Reid Stakes and that's been a strong form race, with Jimmysstar and Reserve Bank (subsequent Group 1 winners) both produced from that Moonee Valley feature.

This will be the final race start for Schwarz before he enters stud duties and contesting the Doomben 10,000 fresh could be the key, as all three of his victories this season have come either first-up or when produced off a freshen-up.

Doomben 10,000 Winners

The Doomben 10,000 was run over 1350m for a long period of time, but in 2016 the distance was changed to 1200m, which we see it run over today.

Champions such as Bernborough, Manikato, Apache Cat, Takeover Target and Doomben legend Chief De Beers are all past winners of the race, which dates back to 1933.

With five wins, George Moore has been the most successful jockey in Doomben 10,000 history, while with six wins, TJ Smith heads the trainers tally.

Mazu (2022), Giga Kick (2023) and Bella Nipotina (2024) have won the last three editions of the Doomben 10,000.
