The Baillieu Handicap was the premier form race for the 2024 Champagne Stakes, as that event produced both Broadsiding and Linebacker, who filled the quinella of the Champagne Stakes via their next outings.

Nepotism is a $2.20 favourite with Neds to win the 2025 Champagne Stakes.

Buffalo ($5.50) came from the rear to record a third-of-ten finish in the Inglis Sires' and he should be suited up to 1600m going off that last performance.

The David Atkins-trained galloper was spelled after an unlucky debut attempt last November and he's been competitive in all four runs this time in.

State Visit ($6) was only narrowly beaten by Vinrock in the Inglis Sires' and the Ciaron Maher-trained colt has finished in the money via all three starts to date.

Champagne Stakes Winners

The Group 1 Champagne Stakes dates back to 1861 and had many changing conditions in its early years.

It was run as a six furlong sprint from 1883 up until 1971, but with the introduction of the richer and more prestigious Golden Slipper in the 1950's, the Champagne Stakes changed to a 1600 metre event to follow both the Slipper and then Sires Produce with a natural progression in trip via the "Triple Crown" series.

Early champion winners of the Champagne Stakes include Ajax, Todman and Vain, while Samantha Miss and Pierro are a few of the more modern champions to win this Group 1.

She's Extreme (2022). Militarize (2023) and Broadsiding (2024) have won the last three editions of the Champagne Stakes.
