Mensik has endured an injury-disrupted season, but has impressed when fit and firing. Struff meanwhile appears well and truly in the twilight of his career at 36 years of age, with the German struggling against elite opposition over the last couple of years.

Always a bit risky backing Mensik with his fragile body - especially a week out from a slam - but there are two trends I can't ignore here.

Firstly, Mensik is a perfect 8-0 vs players ranked outside the top 75 this year. He's beating who he's supposed to. Secondly, Struff is a poor 5-15 against top 30 players over the last two years - his best stuff is behind him.

Struff also has an awful record at this event, so will take Mensik to get the job done in straights - although will sprinkle in at least one tiebreak, with both players equipped with big serves.

Mensik was on fire to start the season after winning the Auckland title and reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open.

However, the Czech was forced to withdraw from that match due to injury. Mensik returned with a strong Middle East swing, stunning Jannik Sinner to make the semi-finals in Doha before reaching the quarters in Dubai.

The 20-year-old hasn't been able to sustain that form though - Mensik lost in the R32 of both Indian Wells and Miami before injury again forced him out of Monte Carlo.

Mensik lost in the R16 of Madrid to Alexander Zverev and suffered a disappointing defeat to the out-of-form Alexei Popyrin in his Rome opener.

This will be his first appearance in Hamburg.

Struff has been a fantastic player for over a decade now, but you've got to think his time at tour-level will come to an end over the next 24 months.

The 36-year-old has only won four matches at tour-level in 2026, with his ranking dropping to No. 79 as a result.

However, the German has managed to win his opening match at his last two clay events, defeating Alexandre Muller in Madrid and Francisco Comesana in Rome.

Struff will be hoping to turn the tables on his poor Hamburg form, which has seen him losing 10 of his 13 matches at the tournament and last winning all the way back in 2019.
