Ipswich Tips January 21

Great Northern Ratings Band 0–58 Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 2 No. 1 Cheers

The son of Sepoy is a proven wet-track performer, having broken his maiden over 1968m on a Soft 5 surface at Yarra Valley late in March last year.

The gelding subsequently joined trainer Cheyne Morphy and showed promise on debut for the stable when finishing third at Sunshine Coast in early October.

Racing on a sound surface, Cheers was beaten just over a length after being ridden cold in a 1600m Class 1 Plate on that occasion.

While the four-year-old has failed to shine in three subsequent starts, it is worth noting he was beaten less than three lengths over 1600m at Sunshine Coast earlier this month.

That run came in a similar race to this, and with the step up in distance posing no issue, Cheers may be capable of surprising on his third start back from a short break.

Ray White Ipswich Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 3 No. 9 Will It Snow

The New Zealand-bred galloper broke through for his maiden win with a strong length victory in a 1400m event at Gold Coast in November.

Will It Snow was first-up on that occasion, with the wet track clearly suiting after trialling with a solid third at the same venue earlier that month.

The son of Super Seth has since proven competitive against winners, including when finishing second over 1800m back at Gold Coast last month.

Bevan Laming’s representative then contested a Class 2 handicap on a sound surface, catching the eye when staying on well after being stepped up to 2150m.

Returning to a forecast wet track and carrying a favourable weight, Will It Snow looks value with Jaden Lloyd aboard despite the wide barrier.

Seven News Class 2 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Simply Excels

The son of Exceed And Excel enjoyed a productive last preparation, scoring twice including a course-and-distance maiden win on soft going here in February.

The gelding later added a Class 1 victory when again racing on a wet surface at Doomben three starts later.

While yet to win this time in, he has finished in the top three in three of his five starts this campaign.

Most recently, Simply Excels was beaten less than half a length when finishing second in a 1200m Class 2 handicap at Sunshine Coast earlier this month.

The return to a wet track is a positive, and he looks well placed to salute for the Emily Lang and Tony Gollan combination.

The Industry School Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 8 No. 12 Davikar

The four-year-old mare showed steady improvement when trained by Annabel Neasham, culminating in a maiden win at Muswellbrook in March last year.

That victory came over 1280m on a Soft 5 surface, where she finished more than a length clear of her nearest rival.

Davikar later changed stables for $60,000 and debuted for her new connections with a win at Gold Coast last month.

The daughter of Deep Field scored narrowly in a 1200m Class 2 handicap on good ground before a solid effort against the males at Sunshine Coast.

Drawing an inside barrier and with Michael Rodd riding for the first time on a forecast Soft 6 surface, she looks well placed to return to winning form.
