Eagle Farm Favourite - Race 4 No. 1 Star Of Jamaica

Don't be surprised if Star Of Jamaica starts favourite, with Bonnie Boom opening much shorter but the pair are now much closer together in betting.

Bonnie Boom was impressive when leading throughout on debut at Eagle Farm in good time, although she landed in front in an on-speed race where the rail was well out.

Star Of Jamaica brings easily the strongest exposed form, having won at start two before producing three competitive performances during the Sydney Autumn Carnival, including brave on-speed efforts behind subsequent Group 1 winners Fireball and Campione d’Italia.

Connections have gelded the son of Profiteer ahead of his three-year-old season, and both July trials have been terrific, while the big weight is not a major concern over 1000m.

Aramar is one to consider at a big price after also being gelded and trialling strongly, with the youngster wayward when beating Bowdene on debut, that runner-up won his next two starts before a fair Listed effort.

Knocking on the door is Wrigley Field, who heads a competitive early market and would be respected if he contests this Eagle Farm event, although staying at 1400m is the main negative.

The ex-Victorian gets down in the weights and should appreciate the big track, but connections may instead favour Sunday’s weaker Sunshine Coast mile from a softer draw.

A major improver could be Larrikin Rogue, who was terrible at Eagle Farm on July 25 but recorded a slow recovery post-race, and a tongue tie now being applied suggests he may have choked down.

The gelding had been building well before that failure, placing first-up on May 9 before an unlucky second-up run and then finishing runner-up off a freshen-up in a similar Doomben event won by Hellova Nature.

Hellova Nature had recorded back-to-back victories earlier in the preparation before running into the talented Cold Brew, while the drop back in distance also suits Larrikin Rogue.

XXXX Class 6 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Eagle Farm Value Bets - Race 8 No. 4 Mister Bianco & No. 9 Mishani Crown

As of Thursday evening, it remains unclear whether Mister Bianco will contest this Class 6 Handicap or Friday’s Daniel Baker Sprint at the Coffs Harbour Cup meeting.

The August 7 option sees him rise in weight but tackle a thinner race, although he must be respected wherever he runs and a big price is available for the Brisbane event.

While beaten as favourite first-up, Mister Bianco is not a 1000m horse and still stuck to the task well behind sharp short-course sprinter Durova, while his second-up record includes two wins and a second, with the latest victory coming over this distance in December.

Mishani Crown also appeals at double figures after improving sharply last season, recording a country and provincial hat-trick before narrowly missing a fourth straight win in metropolitan company on January 24.

She still defeated subsequent Listed winner Arabian Rose that day, trialled well before having excuses in restricted room at Doomben on July 22, and now carries 1.5kg less with a senior rider aboard over her preferred 1200m on good ground.

Eagle Farm Best Bet - Race 9 No. 1 Anemacore

This honest galloper from the Shaun Dwyer yard is overdue for another victory, and on a difficult Eagle Farm program, he provides a strong chance to finish the day on a winning note.

The seven-year-old remained highly consistent throughout last season, with highlights including an Eagle Farm victory in November and a Listed success at the Sunshine Coast on January 24.

Following a freshen-up, he stayed competitive throughout the autumn and early winter, most notably finishing an eye-catching second to Yellow Brick in The Archer before that rival won at Group 3 level two starts later.

Anemacore also went close in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on July 4 before again losing no admirers when runner-up to Sir Artie at Eagle Farm on July 25, recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race.

He conceded 7.5kg to a well-placed winner carrying 52.5kg that day, and from barrier four, Anemacore can secure a more economical run and go one better in one of the weaker races he has contested for some time.
