The Goodwood 2026 Best Bet - Extragalactic

With only six starts to her name in just her second campaign, the main query is whether this has come a little too soon for Extragalactic.

However, the three-year-olds have a strong recent record in The Goodwood, winning two of the past three editions.

The daughter of Deep Field comes through the Tobin Bronze Stakes, which has produced both of those recent winners.

While the hat-trick eluded Extragalactic in that attempt, she lost no admirers after charging home from back in the field with the second-fastest last 200m of the meeting, and with a kinder draw, she likely wins that key Group 2 lead-up.

There are more options this time around from barrier six and, while she rises to face more seasoned opposition, the three-year-old gets a sharp drop in the weights with 50kg, which is 5.5kg less than she carried on April 25.

The Goodwood 2026 Next Best Bet - Rey Magnerio

The starting point for this race has to be Rey Magnerio, a very consistent six-year-old who was only fair on return in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes.

It is worth noting he was working home in inferior going at that Caulfield meeting, and he improved sharply when catching the eye for second in The Quokka.

That April 18 performance featured the second-fastest last 200m of the programme, while recent form behind a flying Jigsaw reads as the best recent reference in this field.

While Rey Magnerio gives weight to all his rivals, he still appears well treated under the set weights and penalties conditions.

The gelding has been sharing the same imposts as more credentialed runners in WFA races this season, while connections are also hoping for a few upgrades from the current Soft 7, with the forecast in their favour.

The Goodwood 2026 Value Bet - Recon

This Victorian visitor is still lightly raced as a four-year-old, having recorded six wins from 11 starts.

There was also a touch of arrogance to his latest victory when heavily backed in the Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.

Recon overcame some trouble in that assignment before letting down strongly from back in the field and comfortably putting away a handy lineup.

The gelding created an impression earlier in the season when completing a hat-trick through the grades, with that sequence culminating on Pakenham Cup Day in a solid BM84 assignment.

This is a new challenge, but Recon is an in-form galloper with upside and the spacious Morphettville surface should suit.
