The 2022 Coolmore Stud Stakes is a Group One sprint for three-year-olds held down the Flemington straight.

The Golden Rose form looks the standout, with runner-up In Secret (barrier nine) the class filly of the event.

She was second to colt Jacquinot (barrier 16) who subsequently ran a huge race in The Everest which is the same race that produced Home Affairs to win last year.

Buenos Nochez (barrier 15) finished second to Everest winner Giga Kick in the Danehill Stakes last start which looks very strong form, while Moir Stakes winner Coolangatta (barrier 13) was scratched from last week's Manikato Stakes to run down the straight against her own age group.

Best Of Bordeaux (barrier 17) placed in last week's Manikato while Economics (barrier 14) was scratched at the gates in the Blue Sapphire, the same race unbeaten galloper Grand Impact (barrier one) won.

Coolmore Stud Stakes Winners

Originally run for two-year-old juveniles, the Coolmore Stud Stakes became a three-year-old feature in 1969.

It was previously held on Australian Cup day in earlier in the year but the Victoria Racing Club moved the race to the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The Coolmore Stud Stakes was given Group 1 status in 2006 when Gold Edition was victorious and since then it has become a must-win race for any early stud prospects.

Unfortunately the race has meant that winners are sometimes retired very early in their careers to begin life as a sire.

Zoustar and Sepoy are two examples of this and there'll be plenty more going into the future.
