Caulfield Guineas 2025 Betting Odds - Autumn Boy & Wodeton Share Early Favouritism

Last updated: Mon 06 Oct 2025 07:43

The 2025 Caulfield Guineas betting market is led by Autumn Boy and Wodeton, both priced at $4 following impressive performances. Vinrock and Beiwacht trail closely at $5, with their campaign paths still subject to change. The Caulfield Guineas, a historic Group 1 race first run in 1881, remains pivotal for three-year-old colts with a reputation as a 'stallion-making' event. Recent winners include Golden Mile (2022), Griff (2023), and Private Life (2024). Key action points: monitor final field decisions, particularly for potential Everest contenders.

Prior to the Golden Rose, Autumn Boy was the outright favourite in this market and he remains well respected despite being well held second-up in that Group 1 feature.

With back-to-back victories as a juvenile and a strong return on September 13, the colt looks capable of improving, and the step up to 1600m is expected to suit.

At $4 with Dabble, Autumn Boy shares favouritism in the 2025 Caulfield Guineas market with Wodeton, who is also prepared by Chris Waller.

While Wodeton hasn’t quite delivered on his early hype, with his only win coming via a brilliant debut success in January, the son of Wootton Bassett has still been competitive in seven subsequent starts.

He’s finished runner-up in two of three outings this campaign, including a second last time out in the Golden Rose.

Vinrock has won four of six starts, including the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in April before heading for a spell.

His form has been mixed this preparation, although there were excuses — not suited by the fast-run 1200m fresh and having little luck last time as an odds-on favourite.

Vinrock shares a $5 quote with Beiwacht, who was dominant in the Golden Rose, where the Godolphin youngster led throughout for a comfortable 1400m victory.

The obvious query is whether he heads to The Everest instead of the Caulfield Guineas, which explains why he’s not leading this market at present.

Caulfield Guineas Winners

One of the oldest Group 1 races in Melbourne history, the Caulfield Guineas was first run in 1881.

Originally staged at Flemington during the wartime period, the Guineas has since made its permanent home at Caulfield and has long been the crowning achievement for numerous colts who have gone on to enjoy lucrative stud careers.

Run over a mile since its inception, the race was elevated to Group 1 status in 1979 when many of Australia’s top events were reclassified. That year it was won by Runaway Kid, following Manikato’s victory the year prior.

Known as a stallion-making race, the Guineas has been claimed by many of Australia’s best, including All Too Hard, Lonhro and Redoute’s Choice.

It has also proven a useful reference for future features such as the Victoria Derby, with Caulfield Guineas winners going on to complete the Derby double on 16 occasions — though the most recent was Helenus in 2002.

Golden Mile (2022), Griff (2023) and Private Life (2024) have won the last three editions of the Caulfield Guineas.
