- Building the ULTIMATE NRL player.
- From best mullet & biggest guns to slickest footwork and stickiest hands
- What player parts would be in your build?
- Ahead of the Game Sports chat with Ryan & Jez
The boy's go back and forth building the ultimate NRL player.
Building the ultimate footy star
It’s the age-old pub chat. You’re watching a game and someone says, “He’s got the best fend in the comp.” Then another pipes up: “But that bloke has a better boot.” And so it begins. The hypothetical mash-up of rugby league’s elite.
So, on Ahead of the Game, we gave ourselves one task: build the perfect NRL player using body parts from today’s top stars. No repeat players allowed. From heads to hammies, it’s a Frankenstein footy fantasy.
The Rules: One Player, One Part
There are 25 rounds in the NRL regular season, and just like team selection, this build was all about balance and versatility. For each body part hair, brain, shoulders, feet, and more, we had to agree on one current NRL player. The catch? You can only pick a player once.
And yes, it got heated.
Who Made the Cut?
The build featured a mix of star power, cult favourites, and absolute units:
- Best Hair: Tino Fa’asuamaleaui’s mullet
- The Brain: James Tedesco’s elite footy IQ
- The Beard: Payne Haas, no explanation needed
- Neck: Cam McInnes. He is a neck
- Guns (Biceps): Herbie Farnworth + Jamal Fogarty
- Hands: Xavier Coates (for stick), Latrell Mitchell (for finesse)
- Hips: Stephen Crichton – tackle-busting balance
- Feet: Latrell’s left, Cleary’s right – imagine that combo
Why This Matters
While it’s a light-hearted chat, these choices reflect what makes elite footy players truly special. From acceleration and power to decision-making and skill under pressure, each part tells a story. It’s also a fun way to engage fans in thinking about player strengths beyond just “form” or fantasy points.
We’ll be building more of these themed episodes, think “softest player build” or even “all-time GOAT monster”, so stay tuned.
