GPT KO Explodes, F1 Chaos & AFL Trade Turmoil | Ahead of the Game Ep. 29

Boardroom brawls, mid-season madness, and the most chaotic GPT KO fight yet—Episode 29 of Ahead of the Game is all heat.

Ryan and Jez open the show with GPT KO: Peter V’landys vs Larry Kestelman, an AI-fuelled cage match between two of Australian sport’s biggest power brokers. It’s expansion vs empire, trash talk vs silent deals, and ends with Kestelman pulling off a tactical upset over the ever-public V’landys.

Then it’s Formula 1 drama. Franco Colapinto replaces Jack Doohan at Alpine, and somehow ends up on Instagram hosting a Mother’s Day party for single mums. The boys break down the Imola setup, potential rain chaos, Alpine’s leadership void, and a few cheeky Red Bull upgrades flying under the radar.

From there, it’s back to the NBL, where the dual reality of the league is on full display. On one hand, the NBL is growing fast—with NBA and EuroLeague teams heading Down Under. On the other, media heat is rising on Larry Kesselman as ownership questions resurface. Ryan and Jez argue why running a league like a government doesn’t work—and why success brings scrutiny.

  • The episode finishes with footy contract madness:
  • Brandon Smith released to Souths
  • Cherry-Evans linked to the Roosters
  • Luke Jackson rumoured to return to Melbourne

Ryan pitches a mid-season trade window, similar to US sport, that could allow frustrated players and clubs to make moves and settle roster drama before finals.

The boys suggest Origin week (or AFL's bye round) could be the perfect time for a two-week trade period. Jez is in. Are you?
