Alexander Zverev vs Luciano Darderi Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Alexander Zverev targets his seventh Rome Masters quarter-final when he comes up against home favourite Luciano Darderi on Tuesday at the Foro Italico.

Zverev continues to plug away this season - he's gone over 12 months without a title, but that's largely due to Jannik Sinner's dominance. Indeed, Zverev is 22-1 in his last 23 matches against players other than Sinner, showcasing his superiority over the rest of the tour. It's taken the Italian to eliminate him at the four Masters 1000 tournaments so far in 2026 and the pair are on course for a fifth meeting in the Rome final.

Meanwhile, Darderi has finally broken through to reach the R16 stage at a Masters 1000 for the first time after featuring in and around the top 20 for quite a while now. It was a stirring comeback in front of a raucous home crowd against Tommy Paul in the previous round, but I don't see the Italian being able to back that victory up here.

Darderi is just 2-15 vs top 20 players in his career and that figure diminishes to 0-5 against the top 10 - and he hasn't won a single set in any of those defeats. Zverev is coming off a dominant win over the in-form Alexander Blockx and should be motivated in what will be an electric atmosphere - backing the second seed to prevail with Under 24.5 total games.
  • Zverev has won 22 of his last 23 matches vs players outside of Jannik Sinner
  • Zverev has won 28 of his last 32 matches on clay vs players outside the top 10
  • Zverev has won 29 of his 36 matches in Rome
  • Darderi is 2-15 vs top 20 players
  • Darderi is 0-5 vs top 10 players, failing to win a single set
  • Darderi is playing his first Masters R16; Zverev is playing his 56th
  • Zverev has won his last eight Masters R16 matches

Alexander Zverev Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 28-8
  • ATP Rome Record: 29-7
  • Current Ranking: No. 3
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)

It’s a familiar story with Zverev - consistent, reliable and always in the mix, but still falling short at the very top level.

The World No. 3 continues to make deep runs at major events, yet the gap remains when facing the elite. He pushed Carlos Alcaraz to five sets in the Australian Open semi-finals, but ultimately couldn’t close it out, while Jannik Sinner has had his number repeatedly this season, beating him in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid.

There’s also a growing drought to consider. Zverev hasn’t lifted a title in over a year, with his last triumph coming in Munich in 2025 - and even there, he couldn’t defend it, falling in the semi-finals to Flavio Cobolli.

Rome has historically been one of his strongest stops, with two titles to his name and Zverev has looked strong so far this tournament, defeating a pair of dangerous players in Daniel Altmaier and Alexander Blockx in straight sets.

Luciano Darderi Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 16-10
  • ATP Rome Record: 5-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 20
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 18 (March 2026)

Darderi put together an excellent start to the season that has propelled him into the top 20 for the first time.

The Italian made the quarter-finals of Auckland before reaching his first Grand Slam R16 at the Australian Open. Darderi then enjoyed success during the Golden Swing, finishing runner-up in Buenos Aires before taking the title in Santiago.

Darderi also advanced to the semi-finals of Marrakech, but his performances at Masters 1000 level before this tournament were disappointing - opening round exits at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, along with a second round exit in Madrid.

However, Darderi has broke through to make a first Masters R16 at home in Rome this tournament, defeating Yannick Hanfmann in his opener before coming from a set and a break down to upset last year's semi-finalist Tommy Paul.
