Daniil Medvedev vs Thiago Agustin Tirante Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Thiago Agustin Tirante will be aiming for a maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final when he comes up against the unpredictable Daniil Medvedev in the R16 in Rome on Tuesday night.

Tirante has come from nowhere to establish himself as tour-level mainstay this season and he should be on course to break into the top 50 for the first time over the next month or so. The Argentine has already demonstrated a great ability to not only be competitive against the very best players in the world, but also beat them.

Indeed, Tirante has a 5-2 record against the top 20 and that record improves to a perfect 2-0 vs the top 10 - a very encouraging sign ahead of this clash with No. 9 Medvedev.

Medvedev remains extremely volatile on clay - you don't know what you're going to get from the Russian, who openly admits he despises the surface. That was evident for all to see when Medvedev was embarrassed 6-0 6-0 by Matteo Berrettini in Monte Carlo, while due to a bye and walkover, his only match so far this tournament in Rome was a 3-6 6-4 6-2 win over qualifier Pablo Llamis Ruiz.

Can't trust Medvedev to cover as favourite against a genuine clay courter on current form - will back Tirante to push this Over 21.5 games and cover a +3.5 line himself.
  • Medvedev is 2-2 in his last four matches vs players outside the top 50 on clay
  • Tirante has won five of his seven career matches vs top 20 players
  • Tirante is unbeaten against top 10 opponents with a 2-0 record
  • Medvedev has seen Over 21.5 games in seven of his last nine matches
  • Medvedev has lost six of his last seven R16 matches on clay

Medvedev vs Tirante Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Daniil Medvedev Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 22-7
  • ATP Rome Record: 11-5
  • Current Ranking: No. 9
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)

It's been a generally positive season for Medvedev, but he's experiencing his usual form slump on clay.

Medvedev's hardcourt form was impressive - he won two ATP titles in Brisbane and Dubai across the opening two months of the season, while he also finished runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters to Jannik Sinner.

However, the switch to clay has been predictably challenging - especially in Monte Carlo, with Medvedev suffering the first double bagel loss of his career against Berrettini.

Medvedev was able to win two matches in Madrid before going down to Flavio Cobolli - his sixth loss in the R16 in his last seven clay tournaments.

The 30-year-old hasn't had to do much in order to return to the R16 in Rome, where he shocked everyone to win the title back in 2023. After a bye and second round walkover, Medvedev did just about enough to make it past Pablo Llamis Ruiz 3-6 6-4 6-2.

Thiago Agustin Tirante Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 14-7
  • ATP Rome Record: 3-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 69
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 69 (May 2026)

Currently at a career-high ranking, Tirante is set to continue his march towards the top 50 - and might even crack it with an upset victory here.

Tirante hasn't really been much of a factor before this year, but he's taken his game to another level, winning at least one match at all six tour-level events he's featured in - including a quarter-final in Rio and semi-final in Houston, earning his second top 10 scalp over Ben Shelton in the latter.

The Argentine has continued his great form on European clay, defeating Tommy Paul on his way to the Madrid third round before going down to Cameron Norrie.

Tirante demonstrated he's a quick learner, avenging that loss to Norrie in Rome before upsetting home favourite Cobolli in a brilliant 6-3 6-4 victory to make a first Masters 1000 R16.
