Iga Swiatek vs Elina Svitolina Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
It's a battle of former Italian Open champions as Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina aim to return to the final in Rome on Thursday.
Swiatek reigned supreme in Rome in 2021, 2022 and 2024 and has returned to her swashbuckling best on clay, blitzing her way into the semi-finals barely dropping games. Meanwhile, Svitolina prevailed in back-to-back years in 2017-18 and continues to flourish after maternity leave, returning to the top 10 and coming off one of the best wins of her career over second seed Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals.
Readers of our tennis column know I'm a big fan of Svitolina and backed her at $4.50 to make the semi-finals pre-tournament, but I don't see her beating this version of Swiatek.
The Pole is in absolutely ruthless form right now, not dropping more than two games in her last six sets in Rome. It's just savage stuff from Swiatek, who demolished Jess Pegula 6-1 6-2 in the last eight.
Svitolina also has a poor record in WTA semi-finals above 250 level lately, while Swiatek has dominated this matchup on clay. The most likely outcome here is another straight sets win for the three-time champion.

Iga Swiatek Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 18-8
- WTA Rome Record: 25-3
- Current Ranking: No. 3
- Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)
It’s been a difficult season for Swiatek, but she's making up for lost time in Rome.
Remarkably, she hadn't reached a semi-final since lifting the title in Seoul last September, going 0–4 in quarter-finals throughout 2026. Her clay lead-up was also underwhelming, managing just two wins across Stuttgart and Madrid, with losses to Mirra Andreeva and a retirement against Ann Li.
That narrative has shifted sharply in Rome. After navigating a tough three-set opener against Caty McNally, Swiatek has found rhythm and authority, dropping just four games combined in dominant straight-sets wins over Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6–1, 6–0) and Naomi Osaka (6–2, 6–1).
Her performance against Osaka was particularly emphatic - striking 23 winners landing 67 per cent of first serves and controlling rallies from the outset. It’s the first time in months she’s looked fully in command from start to finish.
Swiatek doubled down in the quarter-finals against Jess Pegula, dropping just three games in a 6-1 6-2 rout. She didn't face a break point all match and landed 78 per cent of first serves.
"For sure I'm really happy with the match," Swiatek said afterwards. "From the beginning I felt like I can dictate. Tactically everything made sense as well. I was feeling the ball really well. I just used my chance and was pretty confident."
Elina Svitolina Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 27-7
- WTA Rome Record: 24-9
- Current Ranking: No. 10
- Career-High Ranking: No. 3 (2017)
It’s been an outstanding season for Svitolina, as her return from maternity leave continues to gather momentum and re-establish her among the top tier of the game.
She started the year in red-hot form, claiming the Auckland title before powering into the semi-finals of the Australian Open. That level carried through the early months, with a runner-up finish in Dubai and semi-final appearances in Indian Wells and Stuttgart.
There was a brief setback in Madrid with an opening-round loss to Anna Bondar, but it hasn’t disrupted her overall trajectory.
Svitolina has hit top gear again in Rome, advancing into her third WTA 1000 semi-final of the year She’s been particularly dominant, not dropping more than five games in a set across her opening three rounds before a stirring 2-6 6-4 6-4 comeback victory over Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals.
The Ukrainian showcased her fighting spirit, facing a stunning 20 break points and saving 16 of them to outlast the World No. 2 and progress into a third Rome semi-final.
