Coco Gauff vs Elina Svitolina Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's shaping as a blockbuster Italian Open final as last year's runner-up Coco Gauff faces two-time champion Elina Svitolina for the title on Saturday in Rome.

Gauff has taken the scenic route back to the final, becoming the first woman since 1989 to win three matches in a row in Rome after dropping the opening set. The American had a more routine time in the semi-finals with a straight sets dispatch of Sorana Cirstea and will be aiming to go one step further than last year, where she went down against home favourite Jasmine Paolini.

Meanwhile, Svitolina is continuing a brilliant season and is back in the final for the first time since the last of her two Rome titles in 2018. The Ukrainian produced a superb performance to subdue a resurgent Iga Swiatek, recovering from dropping the second set to prevail in three.

Both players have extremely strong records in finals and three of their last four meetings have gone the distance, so I'm expecting another close contest in the Eternal City. Regular bets.com.au tennis readers will know I backed Gauff at $12 to win the title pre-tournament, so if anyone jumped on, hedging your bets is an option.

But, for the sole purpose of this final, I'm going to stick with Gauff. This feels like her title to win after so many comebacks and the heartache of missing out last year. It should be an incredible battle of athleticism and baseline exchanges, but Gauff - in my opinion - is the slightly better big match player and she's my tip to secure the title in three.
  • Gauff has seen Over 21.5 games in 14 of her last 18 matches
  • Three of the last four meetings have gone three sets with Over 21.5 games
  • Eight of Gauff's last 13 wins have been in three sets
  • Gauff has won seven of her last nine matches vs top 10 players on clay
  • Gauff has a 12-4 record in finals
  • Svitolina has a 19-5 record in finals
  • Svitolina has an 11-14 record vs top 10 players on clay
  • Svitolina has seen Over 21.5 games in six of her last seven matches vs top 10 on clay

Coco Gauff Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 24-8
  • WTA Rome Record: 22-6
  • Current Ranking: No. 4
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2024)

Gauff is starting to find her peak level again as she gears up to defend her French Open title.

Prior to Rome, the season had been solid without ever fully clicking. A runner-up finish in Miami stood as her best result, alongside a semi-final in Dubai, but she hasn’t been able to sustain top-level performances across consecutive events.

Her clay preparation was disrupted in Madrid, where illness contributed to a round-of-16 loss to Linda Noskova, making Rome a crucial stop for regaining rhythm.

With plenty of points to defend, Gauff has been forced to battle through matches rather than dominate them. She opened with a composed 6-3, 6-4 win over Tereza Valentova before showing resilience to recover from 0–3 down in the final set and defeat Solana Sierra 5-7, 6-0, 6-4.

That trend continued in the fourth round, where she trailed by a set and 3–5 against Iva Jovic, saving a match point before completing a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 comeback.

The pattern held again in the quarter-finals, with Gauff digging out another three-set win over Mirra Andreeva, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. She eventually converted her fifth match point, extending her unbeaten record against the Russian to 5–0.

Gauff finally enjoyed a more straightforward match in the semi-finals - but she still needed to fight back from a break down at 2-4 in the opening set against Sorana Cirstea. From there, the American cruised, registering a 6-4 6-3 victory to return to the Rome final.

Elina Svitolina Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 28-7
  • WTA Rome Record: 25-9
  • Current Ranking: No. 10
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 3 (2017)

Svitolina has put together an exceptional season, with her comeback from maternity leave continuing to build momentum and firmly re-establish her among the game’s elite.

She began the year in outstanding form, lifting the title in Auckland before charging into the semi-finals of the Australian Open. That level carried through the early months, highlighted by a runner-up finish in Dubai and further semi-final appearances in Indian Wells and Stuttgart.

A first-round loss to Anna Bondar in Madrid briefly halted her progress, but it has done little to derail her overall trajectory.

Svitolina has rediscovered her best level in Rome, advancing to her third final of the season. She was dominant through the early rounds, not dropping more than five games in a set, before producing a gritty 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback against Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals.

That performance underlined her resilience, saving 16 of 20 break points and absorbing sustained pressure to outlast the World No. 2. Svitolina once again showcased those fighting qualities in the semi-finals, recovering from a second set lapse to conquer Iga Swiatek 6-4 2-6 6-2. It was the third time this year that Svitolina has beaten Swiatek, forcing the Pole into a whopping 50 unforced errors.
