Former champion Daniil Medvedev faces lucky loser Martin Landaluce in a Rome Masters 1000 quarter-final. Both have had relatively easy paths: Landaluce getting in as a lucky loser and Medvedev benefiting from byes and a walkover. Medvedev, impressive in his last match, is backed to cover the -3.5 games line against the inexperienced Landaluce, who’s enjoyed good fortune to reach this stage. Recommended prediction: Medvedev to win comfortably, advancing to the semi-final.

Daniil Medvedev vs Martin Landaluce Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Former champion Daniil Medvedev is quietly moving through the draw in Rome as he targets a return to the semi-finals on Thursday against lucky loser Martin Landaluce.

Both players have enjoyed rather fortuitous passages through to the quarter-finals. Landaluce lost in the final round of qualifying to Andrea Pellegrino, but gained entry into the main draw as a lucky loser. The Spaniard received a bye in the opening round before facing out-of-form opponents in Marin Cilic and Mattia Bellucci. Landaluce then took advantage of a fatigued Hamad Medjedovic to reach his second Masters 1000 quarter-final of the season.

Meanwhile, Medvedev had a bye as one of the top seeds in the first round and was handed a walkover by Tomas Machac in the second round. The 2023 champion then overcame qualifier Pablo Llamis Ruiz in three sets for his opening match in the third round before registering a good 6-3 6-2 victory over the in-form Thiago Agustin Tirante in the R16.

It makes for an unlikely quarter-final showdown on the dirt. It's no secret that Medvedev isn't the biggest fan of clay, but he's obviously played well at this tournament in the past and he was very impressive in his victory over Tirante, which I believed would present a much sterner test. Landaluce has benefitted from a lucky path to the last eight and remains very inexperienced at this level. I'll back Medvedvev to cover his -3.5 games line.
  • Medvedev is 4-0 in Masters 1000 quarter-finals vs players outside the top 10
  • Medvedev is 1-0 in Rome quarter-finals
  • Landaluce is 0-1 vs top 10 players
  • Landaluce is 0-1 in tour-level quarter-finals
  • Medvedev has covered a -3.5 games line in 13 of his last 14 wins

Medvedev vs Landaluce Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Daniil Medvedev Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 23-7
  • ATP Rome Record: 12-5
  • Current Ranking: No. 9
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)

It’s been a solid season overall Medvedev, who has made his way back into the top 10.

His hardcourt swing was strong - titles in Brisbane and Dubai highlighted his early-season form, while a runner-up finish at Indian Wells reinforced his consistency at the top level, with only Jannik Sinner able to stop him.

The initial transition to clay once again exposed his limitations on the surface. Monte Carlo was particularly brutal, with Medvedev suffering the first double bagel defeat of his career against Matteo Berrettini.

There were slight improvements in Madrid, where he managed a couple of wins before falling to Flavio Cobolli - marking a recurring pattern, with six R16 exits in his last eight clay events.

Medvedev has pushed through that R16 barrier in Rome, producing a great performance to ease past Thiago Agustin Tirante 6-3 6-2 - but he's yet to face a top 50 player this tournament and won't do so again here.

Martin Landaluce Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 7-3
  • ATP Rome Record: 3-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 94
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 94 (April 2026)

It's been a wild season for Landaluce, who is up to No. 64 in the live ATP rankings after being No. 155 midway through March.

A pair of crazy Masters 1000 runs are directly responsible for Landaluce's rapid rise - and they've come in contrasting fashions.

Indeed, the 20-year-old won six matches from qualifying in Miami, including beating Karen Khachanov and Seb Korda, to reach the quarter-finals. Landaluce has repeated that quarter-final effort in Rome, but has lots of luck on his side.

The Spaniard lost in qualifying this time around, but got into the main draw as a lucky loser and has made the most of his second opportunity. After moving past Marin Cilic and Mattia Bellucci, Landaluce was too strong for a fatigued Hamad Medjedovic in the R16, prevailing 7-5 6-4.
