The door is open for Sinner to break the ATP record (since 1990) for most consecutive match wins, currently held by Novak Djokovic at 43. Sinner has now overtaken Andre Agassi for seventh on the list after notching up his 27th straight victory by defeating Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-4 in the quarter-finals in Rome. Sinner has also compiled a record 32 successive wins at Masters 1000 level and has improved his season record to 34-2 as he continues his pursuit of a Career Golden Masters set in the Eternal City.

Meanwhile, Medvedev has flown under the radar in Rome, with the 2023 champion quietly making his way into the final four. However, Medvedev has benefitted from a favourable draw and is yet to face a top 50 player, coming back from a break down in the deciding set to edge out lucky loser Martin Landaluce in the quarter-finals.

It goes without saying that Sinner is the toughest test in tennis right now and I just can't see how Medvedev troubles the Italian on this surface. Medvedev pushed Sinner on hardcourt earlier this year in Indian Wells, but clay just isn't the Russian's natural surface. Cheap points will be harder to come by and Sinner is just unstoppable right now - I'm backing the World No. 1 to cover his -5-5 games line.

Sinner has separated himself from the rest of the field, and with Carlos Alcaraz sidelined, there’s a clear gap between him and the chasing pack. On current form, it’s difficult to make a case for anyone consistently matching his level.

The season didn’t begin at full throttle, with losses to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open and Jakub Mensik in Doha raising some questions. Since then, however, Sinner has responded emphatically, reasserting his dominance and carrying a 27-match winning streak into this contest.

He has swept through the biggest events on the calendar, collecting titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid, while extending his Masters 1000 winning run to 32 matches - a stretch that underlines both his consistency and authority at the top level.

Now, the focus turns to winning a first title in Rome. Sinner has once again cruised through the draw without coming close to dropping a set in wins over Sebastian Ofner, Alexei Popyrin, Andrea Pellegrino and Andrey Rublev.

“I would have never imagined to stand here as the player what I'm right now,” Sinner said after his 6-2 6-4 win over Rublev in the quarter-finals. “Back in the days when I was younger, I never thought I would arrive to such a high level of tennis.”

It’s been a good season overall for Medvedev, who has worked his way back into the top 10 and a live ranking of No. 8 following this run to the semis in Rome.

His hardcourt form was a clear strength early in the year, highlighted by titles in Brisbane and Dubai, while a runner-up finish at Indian Wells reinforced his ability to consistently contend at the highest level - with only Sinner halting his run in two tiebreaks.

As expected, the shift to clay brought familiar challenges. Monte Carlo was particularly difficult, with Medvedev suffering the first double bagel loss of his career against Matteo Berrettini.

There were signs of improvement in Madrid, where he picked up a couple of wins before falling to Flavio Cobolli - continuing a broader trend, with six round-of-16 exits in his last eight clay tournaments.

He has managed to break through that barrier in Rome, advancing with a controlled 6-3, 6-2 win over Thiago Agustin Tirante before recovering from a break down at 2-3 in the final set to subdue Martin Landaluce 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.
