Mirra Andreeva faces Coco Gauff in the Italian Open quarter-finals, looking for her first win against the American, who leads their head-to-head 4-0. Gauff has been struggling for consistent form this season, often needing to dig deep to secure victories. In contrast, Andreeva is enjoying a fantastic clay swing, boasting a 15-2 record and two titles in 2026. Despite past dominance from Gauff, current momentum favors Andreeva, making her a strong pick for an upset in Rome. Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Mirra Andreeva targets her first career win over Coco Gauff when the two top 10 players square off in the Italian Open quarter-finals in Rome on Tuesday.

Gauff has dominated the H2H series with Andreeva 4-0, including three victories on clay. Andreeva just hasn't been able to deal with Gauff's athleticism and ability to turn defence into attack, especially on the dirt.

However, this looms as Andreeva's best chance yet to get on the board. Gauff has been sub-par basically the entire season and she looks as if she's playing on borrowed time in Rome. Indeed, Gauff had to recover from a double break down in the deciding set against Solana Sierra in her opening match before saving a match point against Iva Jovic in the R16, eventually digging out a 5-7 7-5 6-2 victory.

Gauff deserves immense credit for her fighting abilities, but that win over Jovic was more due to her younger countrywoman's horrific level with the match within her grasp rather than her own good play.

"Honestly on that match point my head was almost to the locker room, to be honest," Gauff said after the match. "I think she maybe dropped a little bit her level when she had the lead. It was able to help me get back into the match."

Andreeva has been one of the standout players on tour this clay swing with a 15-2 record and she's been operating at a much higher level so far in Rome. I don't usually like to go against lopsided H2Hs (it's that way for a reason), but I just can't back Gauff after watching her against Jovic. Andreeva has been down on confidence for a while too, so this is a match I think she must win.
  • Andreeva has won 15 of her 17 matches on clay this season
  • Gauff has seen Over 21.5 games in 12 of her last 16 matches
  • Andreeva has seen Over 21.5 games in six of her last seven quarter-final matches
  • Andreeva has won four of her last five quarter-final matches
  • Gauff has a 10-9 record vs top 10 players on clay, with five of the last six going Over 21.5 games

Coco Gauff Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 22-8
  • WTA Rome Record: 20-6
  • Current Ranking: No. 4
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2024)

Gauff is still searching for peak form as she builds towards her French Open title defence.

The season hasn’t been poor, but there’s been a lack of sustained top-level tennis across consecutive events. Her standout result remains a runner-up finish in Miami, complemented by a semi-final appearance in Dubai.

Preparation on clay has been disrupted, with illness in Madrid contributing to a R16 loss to Linda Noskova.

With runner-up points to defend in Rome, Gauff opened with a 6-3 6-4 win over Tereza Valentova before recovering from 0-3 down in the deciding set to defeat Solana Sierra 5-7 6-0 6-4.

Gauff was forced to dig deep again in the R16, coming back from a set and 3-5 down against compatriot Iva Jovic, saving a match point in the second before completing a 5-7 7-5 6-2 triumph.

Mirra Andreeva Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 29-8
  • WTA Rome Record: 6-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 7
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 5 (July 2025)

Andreeva suffered a dip in form after her big breakthrough last year that saw her win two WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells.

It wasn't an alarming loss of form, especially given she's still so young, but Andreeva certainly wasn't a factor at the business end of the big tournaments.

However, that's beginning to change. Andreeva has secured two WTA titles already in 2026 in Adelaide and Linz, while a switch to clay has led to an upturn in overall form, going 15-2 so far.

The 19-year-old won that aforementioned title in Linz, reached the semi-finals in Stuttgart and made the final of Madrid, going down to Marta Kostyuk.

Andreeva has continued her good form in Rome, defeating Antonia Ruzic, Viktorija Golubic and Elise Mertens on her way to the last eight, winning two sets 6-0 and two sets 6-1 during the tournament.
