Sydney Roosters vs Cronulla Sharks, NRL Round 12 - Expert Prediction

The Roosters have impressed over the last month and can continue their strong recent record on the Central Coast by pushing the Sharks on Saturday night.

It was a slow start to the season for the Roosters, but they come into this clash having won three of their last five games and almost upsetting the table-topping Bulldogs last week. Yes, they've lost a handful of players to Origin and the Sharks are close to full-strength, but the Roosters backline still looks potent and they've won their last five games in Gosford, along with eight of the last 10 meetings with Cronulla.

To their credit, the Sharks stepped up last week and conquered the Storm, but I still have my doubts over their consistency and ability to produce that sort of football week in and week out. It wasn't too long ago they were losing to a Tigers club that is all over the place.

Backing the Chooks to cover a +10.5 line and to win either half, while Daniel Tupou can continue his red-hot try-scoring form against the Sharks.

  • Roosters have won two of their last three games
  • Roosters have won eight of their last 10 meetings with the Sharks
  • Roosters have won either half in their last 10 games vs Sharks
  • Roosters have won their last five games in Gosford
  • Roosters have covered a +10.5 line in seven of their last nine games
  • Roosters have won either half in six of their last nine games
  • Daniel Tupou has scored 11 tries in his last 14 games vs Sharks

Head To Head

As mentioned, the Roosters have won eight of their last 10 games against the Sharks, but it was Cronulla who were victorious in the most-recent clash, winning a high-scoring Magic Round thriller 38-30 in 2024.

Written off by many after their poor start to the season, the Roosters have somewhat turned things around and remain well in contention for a top eight finish.

Despite last week's loss to the Bulldogs, I was impressed by the Roosters intensity and the way their forwards brought the mongrel in the opening half. Ultimately, the Chooks were gassed in the second half, but that was the sort of attitude that can carry them to a potential finals position this season.

Mark Nawaqaniqawase is proving a revelation in the backline, with the former Rugby player scoring one of the great NRL tries in recent memory against the Dogs, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Roosters went down 24-20 after leading 14-0 at half-time.

The Roosters had won their two previous game over the Dragons and Dolphins, scoring 48 and 36 points respectively, with Sandon Smith stepping up and giving the Chooks a bit of spark in attack.

Cronulla Sharks Form Analysis & Betting Trends

I mean, you can't argue with wins - the Sharks have emerged victorious in five of their last six games to firmly cement themselves in the top eight.

The next step will be for Cronulla to push for the top four and facing a depleted Roosters side presents them with a golden opportunity to do just that.

Labelled by many (including myself) as flat-track bullies over the years, the Sharks proved they have the ability to beat the very best when they toppled the Storm 31-26 at home last week.

Addin-Fonua Blake further established himself as one of the leading forwards in the game with an outstanding performance, scoring a try and running for a whopping 249 metres off 22 hit-ups. KL Iro also continued his freak try-scoring form, scoring for the seventh game in a row this season.
