There was an opinion of Clinger early, with the gelding contesting some decent races over his first two campaigns following a debut win at Pakenham.
Aside from a plain third-up effort at Sale, the three-year-old has been ticking over fairly this prep and he was a second-up winner in this grade.
Clinger completed a good jump-out after his Sale performance and his last start at Kilmore was encouraging, where the gelding worked home in restricted room.

He was a stylish return winner in November, where Rubiquity put a two-length margin on It's A Yes and that galloper won his next two, including a city race.
While he remained competitive, the son of Rubick was frustrating in subsequent metro attempts and he was unlucky in his Moonee Valley outings.
Rubiquity is down in grade here off an even return and Symon Wilde-trained horses often improve with a run under the belt (stable strikes at 7% first-up vs 18% second-up).
