Seymour Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Fyreline

An Australian debut winner when taking out a 1400m Werribee maiden on May 14, Fyreline gets to 2000m for the first time on Friday after completing two further winter runs.

The first of those came second-up in a Benchmark 62 at Geelong after five weeks between starts, where the gelding was one-paced but held his ground in a midfield finish.

There was merit to his July 16 performance over the mile at Cranbourne despite going down as favourite, with the first two pairs in running filling the first four placings.

Although unsuited by how that race unfolded, Fyreline was good late for fifth-of-nine in an effort that indicated this trip was worth trying, while the blinkers come off in a bid to help him settle and run out this longer journey.

Ciaron Maher has prepared more than 70 winners since the start of June and boasts a strike rate above 39% at Seymour over the past 12 months, giving Fyreline solid claims at an each-way price.

Seymour Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Annotate

Still lightly raced for a six-year-old, local galloper Annotate has finished in the placings in both previous attempts over the Seymour mile.

That record includes a third on February 20 before a break and a well-held second here on July 19, where he covered ground behind One Long Day, while a kinder draw is in his favour third-up.

One Long Day was dropping in grade and searching for form on that occasion but had previously shown plenty of promise, recording two metropolitan victories and four city placings during the 2024–25 season.

That July 19 event has also produced a subsequent winner, while the third, fourth and sixth all placed at their next appearances, including Baywatch and Sir Rockford in metropolitan BM70 company.

Annotate also opened this campaign with a solid fourth at Bendigo on July 15, recording the fastest final 200m of a race won by Cobblestone Way, who saluted at Sandown last Sunday.

Seymour Best Bet - Race 8 No. 13 Alien Angel

The combination of Jye McNeil and the Hayes brothers has been profitable over the past 12 months, striking at better than 22% and returning an ROI above 79%.

They team up again with Alien Angel, who produced a slick first-up victory at Cranbourne on July 16 when drifting in the market late, but still starting as favourite.

The four-year-old was spelled after placing on debut at Sale in February, where she raced very greenly and was sent back to the paddock as a result.

Wednesday’s Cranbourne abandonment prevented Alien Angel from taking her place there, although she finds a similar affair in this country BM66 and carries 1.5kg less from her fresh success.

That transition from maiden company is never straightforward, but she's probably the most progressive runner in this field, the extra 100m should not trouble her and the Heavy 9 victory first-up confirms that she'll handle the conditions.
