Old Faithful is another strong contender in Race 4, while Stormstout and The Torque Express represent value plays in their respective races. Track conditions may further favor the top tips. Ipswich Tips August 7

Vince Insurance Class 1 Plate Tips (Race 1)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 1 No. 7 Lady Milan

Several good performances in wet conditions earlier this preparation included a runner-up finish for Lady Milan at the Gold Coast two starts ago.

Although beaten as favourite over 1000m that day, the mare made no mistake when dropping to this distance at Ipswich subsequently, scoring by more than four lengths.

The four-year-old showed good speed from the barriers with blinkers applied for the first time, and the headgear remains in place on Friday.

Good 4 going appeared to suit last time, and while she handles the forecast Soft conditions, any track upgrade would further enhance her prospects.

Leah Martyn has partnered Lady Milan in both starts this preparation, and from barrier four, the apprentice can guide Tony Gollan’s mare to consecutive victories.

Ipswich Roughie - Race 3 No. 5 The Torque Express

A Benchmark 62 victory here in early January demonstrated The Torque Express’ liking for the Ipswich circuit.

Racing on Good ground, the gelding finished nearly a length clear of his rivals and has since produced several respectable efforts in defeat.

That includes his first-up appearance at Grafton, where he encountered trouble in running before finishing ninth when beaten less than two lengths.

An eighth in a 1200m Open Handicap at Doomben followed, with the third and sixth from that race both winning subsequently, while the forecast conditions are no issue given he broke his maiden on a Soft 5.

The rise in distance should suit, and representing a stable that has enjoyed a strong 2026 at Ipswich, The Torque Express may be capable of causing an upset.

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Old Faithful

Some solid efforts in maiden company preceded Old Faithful’s breakthrough victory at the Sunshine Coast two starts ago.

Racing over 2200m for the first time, the gelding settled prominently from a wide barrier and scored by a length on a wet surface.

The form has since been strengthened by the third and fourth both winning, while Old Faithful returned to the Sunshine Coast seven days later for a Benchmark 60.

After leading on that occasion, he weakened late to finish third when beaten just under four lengths.

The drop in distance and return to Benchmark 0-58 company are positives, while Stuart Kendrick’s decision to bypass a Doomben race on Wednesday may prove rewarding.

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 5 No. 11 Stormstout

Stormstout has started at big odds in both appearances this preparation, including when contesting Class 1 company last time.

Racing over 1350m, the six-year-old produced a big effort to finish third when beaten just over half a length.

After being ridden cold, she raced along the fence before running short of room and being checked 50m from the finish.

That performance came on a Soft 5, and despite often being slowly away, the mare shaped as though a longer distance would suit.

Stormstout races beyond 1600m for the first time since November 2024, while Montana Philpot retains the ride and her mount represents value.
