Pinjarra Value Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Cassenite

Cassenite has had her chances as an 11-start maiden, but both runs this campaign suggest a breakthrough is coming.

She resumed with an eye-catching second at Belmont, where she recorded the fastest closing sectionals of the entire program.

That race was won by Great Promise, who has since been competitive on Perth Cup Day, while Alebrije also emerged from the form as a subsequent maiden winner.

The four-year-old then struck trouble in her latest run and finished sixth without threatening, with that performance better than it reads on paper.

This is good placement back in grade into a set-weights provincial maiden.

Pinjarra Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 8 Southern Firetail

Southern Firetail was disappointing as a well-supported favourite on debut, but that came in a Saturday three-year-old event against more experienced opposition.

Several of those rivals brought strong prior form, which adds important context to that first-up performance.

The market went the other way at start two at Albany, but there was still merit in his fourth-place finish.

He was the only runner to make ground in an on-speed dominated race, which made the effort stronger than it appears.

Getting to 1600m at his third start looks suitable and with William Pike sticking aboard, the Adam Durrant-trained galloper finds a maiden lineup with a long tail.

Pinjarra Best Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Magical Sequence

The jockey and trainer combination of William Pike and Jason Miller has been a strong one this season, producing four winners from just seven engagements.

Pike has been aboard the last four winners for the stable, including Magical Sequence when she scored first-up on December 31.

That New Year’s Eve victory was much better than it reads, with the mare covering ground and still getting the better of Urquharts Bluff.

Urquharts Bluff franked that form with an Ascot win yesterday, while Rock The Market finished third in that New Year’s Eve race after beating Poblano the start prior.

Poblano is a stablemate of Magical Sequence and has since won her past two starts, further strengthening the depth of that form.
